FTE / Flybe MAPS Phase 3
Hi All,
Just received an email inviting me to stage 3 of the FTE / Flybe MAPS in Exeter. I am just wondering if anyone else here is attending, and also looking for a heads up on what to expect at the interview with the guys from FTE.

No it's the ab initio route that they are running with Flight Training Europe down in Jerez. Conditional offer of a job with Flybe on completion of the course
You had any experience with OAA and Flybe?

unfortunatly i have no experience, but iv just got my OAA pack through today, looking to start my pilot training in the next few months, looking at ALL the options open to me, and spending lots of time reading all the differing arguments on here!

Jealousy.... hmmm thats a new one.... why would the experienced pilots flying for airlines and offering advice in this forum be "jealous" of a wanabee about to spend 80k on an integrated course at FTE or OAA.... bizarre... please do explain...

well as i said, im looking at all the options, and willing to look at what everyone has to say, as well as listening to myself and family. im 20, got two very cushty jobs atm, dont pay a massive amount but is gettin me by, untill i finally decide when and where to do me training, no university degree...but i love working hard so guna see where i end up hey!

It's not only professional pilots offering "advice" on here, as we all know! If I'd listened to half the stuff I'd read on here I would never have gone through with pilot training. I finished the course in May and am in the holding pool for a job. Good luck for the Flybe MAPS. It's a brilliant course and things are looking brighter.

Hi All,
Just got back from my assessment for the FTE / Flybe MAPS phase 3 in Exeter, and as expected it was pretty tough
The whole selection process lasted about 5 hours and I was absolutely knackered by the end of it!
First of all there's 4 written tests to do including numeracy, numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning and maths and physics. After that there's an interview with a lady called Alison Sanger from FTE. She's really nice and puts you at ease on what is a very stressful day.
Finally, theres 4 pilapt tests to do on a laptop using a joystick and a keypad. This is the hardest part of the day I think.
To be honest I don't think I did well enough to get through to phase 4. There are 30 applicants in total through to phase 3 and only 6 places on the course.
Good luck to anyone who has their assessments Monday and Tuesday!

RE flybe/maps
I did the assesment monday morning... i think did average but the compeitition is going to be pretty strong across the board- they only invited I think 26 ppl out of the 200 that applied an apparently there are only 6 jobs :S...

how much is the course going to cost? 70k? so if there was no interest on the loan about 700 quid over 8 years? (but there is so perhaps payments will be more)
Average salary of FO around 28-30k - 1700 quid take home a month.
do the maths

700 loan out
600 rent out
400 food/beer out
100 car out
= -100 quid a month...
You better look at the bankruptcy thread

UAV, sacrifice a few of those things.
Beer, don't drink any.
Car, ride a bike.
Rent, share or if possible stay at home.
Anything is possible if you really want to do it. If it gives you an opportunity to start a career, why not make some sacrifice now and then when you earn more in future, enjoy life then.

i agree, i am giving up a lot now in order to save for my training -
but
will you be able to live at home when flybe post you to the outer hebrides? ( i was talking about renting, you aint gonna get a mortgage with 70k loan over your head!!)
will you be able to live close enough to the airport to ride to work? will the captain apriciate you dripping with sweat and smelling to high heaven after cycling 5 miles to work. Will you want to bike back home in the dark after finishing work on lates?
I am sure you can trim down those numbers i quoted below, but it will still leave you a hand to mouth exisitance while your mates are giving you lifts in the back of their new beamers.

Every line pilot (including myself) has sacrificed a hell of a lot, not just financially, to get where they want to be.
I can assure you, when I was an FO I most certainly did not have a hand to mouth existence! All of our FO's seem to be living a pretty comfortable life actually.
Quite frankly, whilst I respect the pragmatism, you have a defeatist attitude, we dont want you on our line.

Believe me I am not defeatist - i am a realist.
If I didnt want to fly as much as I do would I be currently working 2 jobs 7 days a week for the last 18 months and studing every night?
I dont want to put anyone off their dream, I just want people to realize the pitfalls of getting loaned up to their eyeballs, and the salaries they will be starting on.
Please please tell me that your not putting your folks house down as a secuirity on the loan...

I agree with pilotho! I did my assessment on saturday and I know that the course is very expensive and yeh it will be tough for the first 5 or so years but it has always been my dream too and I will sacrifice anything to get to where I want to be.
It's more than just a job, it's a way of life!
