zero FI jobs in the UK a present, unless you're an aviation god with stacks of hours, aeros and a world of experience, then you'd be able to get into the commercial schools teaching multi, IR that type of thing.

There are instructor jobs around, but not many. I teach part-time for a busy school in the South East UK, the CFI is very busy with FIC's and most of them have jobs at the end with various schools within the UK. The more people you know within the instructing circle seems to help.

The last post is incorrect. There are no FI jobs at the moment, and comments like that prompt people already in debt to waste another £7k. Proof? Well, FTN last month (front page) detailed the surplus of CPL qualified FIs, and with the CPL trade drying up most schools are switching to teaching FI courses instead. These schools have been churning out FIs for months now and many more are coming out of the system to at best a job with only a handful of hrs a week.

Well one of my local FTO's just took 2 newly minted FI's fresh from the wrapper within the last few weeks so i'd beg to differ that there's "no" vacancies out there. Maybe that was the last 2 vacancies within the UK of course.....!!

FI jobs ARE indeed available - much depends on the FTO's location and client/customer base.

Ask how many hrs these new guys are getting, it will be next to nothing with no retainer and likely to be layed off completely in the Autumn? Yes there will always be people you hear of who get lucky, but the situation is really very dire. Don't waste £7k getting the rating just now unless you can afford it.

Well, there's nothing positive to talk about just now so may as well moan until it all gets better. Then find something else to moan about!
