HI all a few questions..!

Hi all im 17 and at college studying engineering. The course title as far as im aware is "Btec natonal diploma in engineering". Firstly would this be equivilent to A-levels as it is quite maths and physics based? Reason i ask is about the flybe (i think) scholarship for 2008.

Also im a Sargent in the ATC with a set of blue wings from my gliding scholarship.

My ambition is to become an airline pilot and its my total ambition to get there. Anybody got any tips, suggestions or ideas of what to do next?

thanks alex!

Your BTEC National Diploma if my memory serves me correctly is equivalent to 2 A Levels, or it was when I did it.

One of the first things you must do is get a class 1 medical. You do not want to get half way through you professional ground school and later realise that you cannot get the required medical, it is important you do this.

There is a lot of information on this website regarding routes to becoming an airline pilot, therefore it may be worth having a little skirt around. Make sure you do plenty of research.

Good luck with it.

This forum will provide you with a wealth of information on every possible topic that you could think of relating to attaining your dream... so have a good read from time to time.

The above advice on the medical is sound. You cannot possibly know all the ins and outs of your own body and the Class 1 will tell you if you are medically fit to do the job. People can go on for years without realising that they are slightly colour blind, for example. It costs £310 and is done at Gatwick.

Good financial planning is essential, also. Thoroughly research all the available routes to the right-hand seat, and don't, for God's sake, expect you are owed a jet job as soon as you have a CPL/IR/MCC.

Be flexible, work hard, be pro-active, seek out and accept good advice, keep busy with flying and do well in your BTEC and you'll be stood in good stead.
