A good opportunity?

Hi there,

Im a wannabe like so many of us in this field of work. I dont yet hold a fATPL but have done a small amount of flying (50ish). My intention is to continue to save to be able to undertake an integrated course.

Just recently, through a contact, I have been offered the opportunity to sit in the RHS of a Piper Cheiftain flying both scheduled and charter routes mainly into france. I went for my first flight today which was everything I wanted it to be, it was made even better as most of the destinations were only just above IR minimas so it gave me the opportunity to watch the pilot fly ILS' etc.

This is by no means any type of job its simply an opportunity for me to 'tag' along when I have spare time and days off.

How helpful do you think I can expect this to be in the long term, i.e the run up to part sponsorships with Thomas Cook and the like and failing those the self funded integrated? Is this something I could exploit and use in my favour in the future?

I guess what Im asking is, apart from the pure fun and excitement of being able to go whenever time permits, could this be a fantastic way of showing enthuisiasm and commitment which all prospective employees want to see proof of? How serious would you take it?

One more thing, Im sure its been brought up before but does anyone know what the repayments will be per month for the HSBC loan offered alongside Oxford and their integrated course?

Cheers people

Shows initiative, willing and interest in my book mate. Good on you. Sounds like you might actually be interested in flying instead of what might be seen as a cool career. If you are interested, and stick at it I am sure you will be successful.

Best of luck

yeah, same as above and for gods sake keep the contact, when you finish your intergrated course and have your new shiny fATPL you might be able to get some twin hours in, which are like gold dust and will really look good on the old CV....good luck!

ps, as for the loan that all depends on the amount of loan and how long you want to pay it off over, just go into and high street branch and they'll happily give you the info, but it sure aint cheap thats for sure
