Dear Meacadetpilot,
I've another question for you, please.
I can see on MEA website that the first academic exam is on march the 6th. How long does it take to have an answer if we can continue or not the selection?
And how many time after this first academic exam did you pass the other one writen exam and the interview? Just an approximation will help me a lot. Thanks a lot.
Hope to see you in jerez, who knows?
alex.

after the first exam , u will have an answer after 2 weeks,(phone call and email) which will tell u that ur first medical will be in 3-4 days,,then after this medical, the next exam will be within10 days, then the interview in a couple of days ( 3-4) , then the medical in a week.....which means that it will last from march 6 until end of april ( 20-25) ,,,,i am not sure it will be like this this year, but it was like this during my selection

plus ur qualifications are exelent..
if u understand spoken arabic (lebanese) it is ok...practice it by watching some lebanese tv channels
reading and writing arabic is not important at alll.....they wont even check it...they dont care

mehio,

All relevant information could be found on the website.

The Physics and Maths exams at the initial examinations (phase 1) are based on the Lebanese Baccalaureate scientific program (GS/LS).

During phase 4, you will be taking 2 other Maths and Physics examinations that are prepared by the FTO that you will be conducting your training at.

Cadet pilot program selection 2015-2016

Hello Everyone,

I already applied for MEA cadet pilot selection 2015 - 2016

I currently live in Montreal - Canada and hold a master degree in Aerospace Engineering and I am currently working as a mechanical engineer.

The problem that I am worried about is my Eye vision.

Yesterday i went to see an optometrist .

He told me that I do not have daltonism and my near vision is very good.

However I do have on my left eye -1.5 and on my right eye -0.75 dioptry. Do you guys think that this will be ignored regarding my left eye ? I am really worried about it . in the requirements it says up to 1 degree

Looking forward to hear from you guys.

Thanks

Regards,

Elie

Turkelie,

I think the best way to know the answer is to send them an email or give them a call which is faster.

They might say no directly, so I advise you to contact MEA's doctor and ask him personally about your case.

Good Luck.

Hi Hagop,

Yeah ure right and I also figured out that I have a small degree of astigmatism and wont get higher. It is stable !! It is reasonable that nowadays few people dont have astigmatism!! I also knew that some pilots possess 0.5 astigmatism and got accepted !! They don't have to be strict i guess .

Astigmatism Probem

Hi Hagop,

Yesterday I went to see the optometrist to do an eye check!

For near vision: it's perfect
Distant Vison : -0.5 / -0.75 (less than -1.00 )
No daltonism
However I do have astigmatism : -1.00 / -1.75

For MEA astigmatism is not acceptable

As for EASA class 1 medical exam : the maximum you can have for astigmatism is -2.00

Do you think they will reject my application for the program if I reach step Number 6 ?

I mean they can assess it. Im below the EASA requirements !!

Do u know anybody who got accepted having this type of problem ?

Looking forward to hearing from you

Regards,

Thanks

Elie

Turkelie,

MEA does not depend on any CAA for the class 1 medical which explains the harsh requirements at their pilot selections unfortunately.

EASA accepts astigmatism up to -2.00, FAA does not even have a limitation for astigmatism or any type of correction; you must just have 20/20 with or without correction.

MEA have their own rules and regulations. As for previous applicants, I currently know 2 first officers at MEA who wear glasses but I have no idea about their prescriptions.

Did you try to contact the pilot recruitment department or MEA's registered physician asking about your situation?

If you are able to come back to Lebanon for the duration of the selection, without losing your job/being away from family duties... I advise you to give it a shot and try. You can never know the answer if you don't go for it.

Good Luck and let us know what happens!

Thanks a lot for your reply Hagop,

Yes I talked to the supervisor and I was very friendly with him and he understood my situation... In contrary he really supported me to go to Lebanon to do the exam. So they are aware of the plans !

I really really have a good profile and i assume nowadays MEA is looking for talented candidates who have previous experience in the aerospace environment! I mean maybe I have more advantage than other candidates. Anyway, we will see. I guess its not a big deal and I won't think of this problem right now !! Will let you know once I jump to the next process !

Thanks for your support

Elie

You're most welcome.

May I know who was the supervisor that you talked to? PM me if you prefer.

I don't think that having a previous experience in the aerospace industry will give you any advantage over other applicants as most of the first officers that I know at MEA were specializing in fields other than aviation before they joined as cadet pilots.

However, MEA is currently raising its pilots' educational standards indeed. They used to have a minimum requirement of "one year of university (sophomore)" to apply, but on this selection as you can see their "new" minimum requirement is at least a Bachelor's degree to apply to the mentored scheme, which is the reason that turned down my application as I still have 2 years to complete my engineering degree. PS: Engineering in Lebanon is 5 years.

Anyways, all the best of luck and keep us updated.

Hi Hagop,

I mean the supervisor that I work with at the company based in montreal-Verdun. Not the officer at MEA, cause I am 100% sure that he is gonna tell me that i wont fit for the job ==> Astigmatism is not acceptable. Although the optometrist told me that these days very very few people doesnt have a % of astigmatism.

Secondly, I meant by more knowledgeable in the field of aerodynamics and propulsion ! Anyway maybe ure right it wont help. but im studying again all the material that we studied in Grade 12 ( SG / SV ).

The exam is on the 27th of October.

Good luck on your engineering degree !! will let you know on the updates !!

Thanks !

Cedarjet80,

They opened up applications for first officers and direct entry captains between July 1 and July 31... there were a few applicants but the results are not finalized yet as far as I am concerned.
Have a look at Open Sky Aviation
