Sorry but have I missed something here? He didn't claim he was a drug smuggler, was caught on what was a very minor offence for which he received a conditional discharge. I'm not a criminal lawyer but i'm sure smugglers would receive much worse, the clue is in the punishment received.

As I posted earlier, about the same time scale ago I was convicted of a minor public disorder offence, and both my police PNC check and a Disclosure Scotland showed no offences of any kinds. Under the laws of the UK once a minor conviction is spent, it does not preclude you from holding a responsible job in aviation.

Alot of people make a silly mistake when they are young, but the majority mature and grow out of their childish whims. I recently secured my first job with just 270 hrs, RHS on jet, modular student with no industry contacts. I was a bit nervous when I first applied for my airside pass, but purely based on unfounded comments from pprune "know it alls"

LewisA, get on with it, thankfully the majority of our society accept human err without the sort of pedantic unfounded response you have received.

Good luck!

Bringing back say an 8th of Cannabis resin from a weekend in Amsterdam might well be considered a minor offense and is typical of a youthful mistake. But it would still be drug smuggling.

Some minor offenses look worse than others to the 55yr old Telegraph reading airline interviewer..

In a tight labour market where new pilots with low hours are urgently in short supply such things would not matter much. But.

Hello can anyone help me here. I have a spent criminal conviction for assault when I was 16 (10 years ago). I have read your thread and it appears that as it 'spent' I don’t need to disclose it. So therefore I won’t have a problem getting an airside path. However, the rehabilitation of offenders act only applies to the UK. So how difficult would it be finding employment? For UK airliners I would not need to disclose it, but to a foreign carrier I would and what about visa issue when flying into places such as America etc.

Thanks for your help.

@GuyAK

One big thing there is that your employer can use this to dismiss you instantly if you don't disclose and they later find out.

Conviction for aviding military

Hi all

A hold EASA licence and am working in major EU airline.
Europe and NATO are now in tension with Belarus and Russia.

Since I served in military before (always regret that choice) I am in military reserve and in case of war I would be among first drafted to go to war.
Avoiding military is a criminal conviction.

What do you guys think, If I am convicted for avoiding military service, would I be fired from my current airline job or my licence could be revoked?

Thanks

If you were convicted it would seriously impede your ability to hold an airside pass.
However, if war was to break out between Russia and. NATO, I doubt many of us would hold down a flying job in Europe anyway.

Criminal conviction for avoiding military service

Hi again
Same question, different geopolitical situation.

I am Estern European (have border with Russia) citizen.
I work as a pilot in major airline.

I had military experience which I regret having and now am in military reserve list who would be the first sent to frontlines in case Russia would attack my country.

Even though my country is NATO, with polytical weakness of the west, there are strong doubts that NATO might just leave us to avoid escalating into major cinflict with Russia. In that case is low chances of survival during war for fronline soldiers.

Avoiding military service during war time is criminal conviction.

What do you think, would European law allow
to prosecute me as refugee internationally or like issue arrest warrant after war is complete?

If convicted in such special circumpstances would I get to keep my airline pilot job as a refugee?

Thanks

Why are you obliged to give your military service if you’re no longer part of the military?

In some countries you never leave the military. You remain as a reservist for life, meaning mandatory callup if it came to it.

what a horrible situation to be in. I guess the only option would be to leave the country and declare yourself as an expat. I’m not sure if that would work but might be an area to look into.

Does the Rehabilitation of offenders act apply in this case (Spent conviction)?
Does anyone have any idea whether the job of pilot is currently exempted from the act (Like solicitors, traffic wardens etc.)? or whether spent convictions must be declared when applying for a job as pilot.
If not currently exempt, then what are the chances that this may happen in the future due to recent events.
What would the implications be if flying to visa destinations etc.?
Thanks
if it’s a spent conviction you don’t need to declare it. If it’s aviation relevant eg. An act of terrorism or aviation related, then it may be an issue.
I’m wondering the same thing as an AusCheck background check will show old charges due to a recent driving charge. It should be a spent convictions but you must have 10 years free of convictions or the time period starts all over again! Cabin crew is my dream job and I think I ruined my chances.
I’ve made it through to the last stage of onboarding and would be starting ground school training if I could pass the security checks.
I’m not holding my breath 😔

I have thought about this option also, as my name is so common. I could easily say it’s someone with the same birth date. And provide a new address. But I’d prefer to be an honest person..

Hello,
I wanted to be a pilot, during 2011-2012 I did my studies and training, then things went really sidesways and I gave up. Many bad things happened, I got into huge debt and commited embezzlement. 4 months jail time but suspended sentence for 18 months. Did nothing bad since, never went to jail, criminal record is clean now, paid for everything. It was 9 years ago. The only thing which remains from the past is still a bit of debt. But it is not "normal debt". It is something like distraint. When I work somewhere, the company gets letter from authority and they take huge part of my salary to pay for the debt. To that, I officially live at town hall. Of course, I don't but my ID and all official documents say so.
I have opportunity to get my licence and everything again. But I'm really worried about background check. My criminal record is ok but then there is the other thing. According to our authority and law. I have to be
To obtain a background check, the applicant must meet the good repute requirement and credibility requirement.
Good repute means criminal record.

b) a credible person for the purposes of the background check is deemed a natural person whose unescorted entry to the security-restricted area is not connected with a specific risk. A specific risk is a reasonable suspicion that the hitherto conduct of the natural person, his/her business or social contacts give strong indication that he/she could expose civil aviation to the risk of an act of unlawful interference. Credibility is certified by a binding opinion of the Police of the Czech Republic, by which the CAA is bound.
Maybe I'm overthinking that but I'm willing take my chances with CVs and interviews and everything but I'm really worried about this part of background check. I would like to find a job in EU but I really don't know how much they will think I'm evil or terrorist. Does anyone have insight how much the information spread across EU countries and how much do they care about this?
