BA assessments: a few simple questions
hey all,
I am going to the BA assessments in the near future. I read the most interesting descriptions about that in other forums. Now some really down to earth practical things:
What is the expected dress code?
Is there a possibility to buy lunch or food in general at Cranebank?
How reliable is the BA bus from Hatton Cross? Or is it doable to just walk to the Rivers?

I would suggest a suit and tie for any interview.
You'll be so nervous you won't have an appetite for lunch!!
I may see you there as I'm also inbound shortly, I've taken someone else's advice on Pprune and have booked into the Jurys Inn Hotel which apparently is only a few minutes walk from The Rivers. This will hopefully save any worries about car parking or taxis. You can book on line at: www.jurys-heathrow-hotels.com/jurysinn_heathrow and it'll cost you £49 for the night.

flyA380, there is no time to go into Cranebank. Bring your own sandwiches, you will have about 30 minutes for lunch when you also get the chance to ask the recruitment people any questions. Not officially part of the assessment but beware!
And wear a suit!

Whats the world coming to - Where lunch is a essentially part of the selection; and you have to supply your own lunch!

I did the procedure in '90 and it was a 2 day thing. A night at the Edwardian was provided; plus travel down from home on a BA flight or petrol money, and £25 for over-night expenses.
And lunch was free!

Yep, the days of the free lunch are over. There are some basic vending machines in the reception area but thats all (There is a canteen miles away but you can't get to it without causing a fuss to get an ID-bearing escort). I reccomend bringing a substantial packed lunch, or else its a long time to go without and you don't want extreme hunger/rumbling stomach distracting you during the interview/tests. Good luck!

I think if you go to the gate opposite the car park, explain who you are and why you're there and give them 2 forms of ID, then they will give you a temporary pass so as to go through to the canteen for what is a very good breakfast.

Sorry, slightly off topic!
Can you use calculators for the numerical reasoning as the Management Paper says you can, and for the cadet papers you could, but not sure about the direct entry ones?

Hi there chaps! New to this forum so very sorry if this is in the worng place! Have my BA assessment day/interview on Monday and need some help on what to expect, questions i am likely to get asked, etc. Anyone willing to help or point me in the right direction?

Went for the interview recently and stayed in the Jurys Inn Tel. No. 0208 266 4664.
If you have a crew card the rate is £50 + £3 extra for the cooked breakfast which was ok a little greasy but worth bulking up on the carbs as it is a long day and the nervous energy eats it up quickly.
The hotel is walking distance about 15-20 mins depending on how swea you want to get before your seen. The hotel will call a cab for you but for such a short distance its quite expensive but worth it as they know exactly where the Rivers is.
The hotel is a 2 minute walk from Hatton Cross Station and well sign posted.
The BA busses run regularly but i decided that it was safer to get a cab for a few quid as i didn't want to be late.
The card that BA sent you showing you where the Rivers is has on the back a number for a taxi firm so you might want to call them. just in case you dont have it it's 0800 716 599.
There is no facility for lunch at the Rivers only some vending machines that dish out chrisps and chocoaltes and tea coffee and soft drinks. There is a canteen at Cranebank but you just wont have the time to get across there.
If you can pack a lunch or ask the hotel if they can make up a packed lunch for you.
There is parking at Cranebank but on the day it might be packed so thats your choice.
Dont be phased by anything the recruitement guys really are friendly and i got the impression that they really want you to pass. It was the most professional interview i've ever been to in any career and by the end of the day you'll be relatively relaxed.
The worst bit is waiting for that call especially as your mates and family will be calling you to find out how it went and each and every time you'll think its the one.
In term of what to wear well its standard stuff really. Dark suit White shirt and no Homer Simpson ties. I did note that NO one had a pin striped suit on and only one chap with a blue shirt.
My best advice is plenty of rest the night before up early enough to get a hearty breakfast in and leave lots of time to get to the Rivers. Some guys turned up at 08:25 which doesn't leave much time to relax and meet the rest of the team.
Smile and say hello to everybody as you never know who the person is next to you and the guy on the gate outside (really friendly) may even be part of the process....who knows.
Relax remember its not impossible as people get through and the very best of luck.

A good buddy of mine, who will remain nameless and, yes, I have some, always has a double vodka or two before an interview or simulator check ride. He reckons that the relaxing effect of the grog far outweighs any minimal diminuition of his performance. Of course he gargles afterwards. His career has been meteoric and happily successful. He may even fly, or have flown, for Riversands Rabble.
