Meribel Altiport

Has anyone used Meribel Altiport? What special techniques are required?

For info : In France, in GA with PPL you need a special "mountain "qualification to use some altiports in the Alps, just to learn the mountain techniques.
If you have never been low level in the Alps before , going there by car and taking an hour or two with one of local pilots would make a lot of sense.

Even if you are CPL for using Meribel you need to be signed out by an approved instructor as it's a relatively unconventional approach and procedure.

Have fun because mountain flying is really superb but can be very treatrous.

Hi,

This was discussed quite extensively earlier this year in this thread in the Private Flying forum.

Special techniques for Meribel? Accurate speed control on final approach and an accurate touchdown close to the beginning of the runway every time!
