Nose gear pins

CAL 747 nose gear collapse on ramp while being loaded.
Install that nose gear pin!!!

Where? I've never heard of installing gear pins for loading a 747F...
Are you refering to C.A.L from Israel or CAL China Airlines?

C.A.L. Israel. Happened on cargo ramp BGR.

Thats the towing pin doggydog. NLG pin is right up in the wheel well, needs a special extention tool to install it.
Now that I think about it, I have had the gear pins installed once for loading. Was a heavy 40ft container through the nose. My main concern was possible cresting when the oleo sinks under the weight. There's not much room to play with. Installing the pins kept the aircraft stable. Very much a one-off situation though, and definately not required for normal ops.

There may have been another problem besides "no nose pin."
(Mechanics working on the hydraulics and gear lever not in Down position, etc...)
The nose gear encounters much more stress during landing and takeoff and in turns during taxiing than when choked while stationary during loading.
