It looks to me, that you will be able to fly in the right seat of a Canadair Regional Jet before you are 21, with just a Commercial/Instrument/Multi-engine.
I believe it will be possible to by-pass the regional carriers, and go straight to the supplemental carriers once you have an Airline Transport License.
If the Pt 135 cargo carriers buy planes like this, then the plan of getting an EASA (f) ATPL falls to the back burner.

The Canadair looks like it would make a good freighter.
Like a big Falcon 20.
But the plane I see sitting waiting for a new mission is the Embrier Regional Jet.
I must have seen about 100 of them in storage around the country.
I just don't know what they will do with them?

pbi,

As we know, it comes down to money...in all things. If these airframes prove to be of economic value, they'll be taken up. I guess that remains to be determined.

There must be quite a few well maintained copies available here in the USA as the regionals dump them.

In a similar concept, there are also quite a few MD80 airframes coming available for something...freighter conversion among them. A few have appeared but not very many, IIUC.

It's a shame to see so many quality airplanes go to the chopper.
