Derogation at home base

Hello,

Just wondering if this is also happening at any other outfit out there

I am a pilot for a large cargo company in Europe.
We fly a very large network all over the world that includes very long trips crossing many time zones and even crossing the dateline as much as twice in one trip.

With the introduction of the new FTLs, I have noticed that our crew planning department is using derogation to ORO.FTL.235 by providing rest accommodation at home base to avoid the minimum local night requirement.

My understanding of the said derogation is that it is to be used in special occasions and in a seldom manner.
And not to make it a common practice to contour the minimum rest required after crossing several time zones.
Otherwise, what is the purpose of having a home base?

Hello there. The rules allow the operator to use this reg. The regs don't mention anything about in exception.
In many cases crew members are asking for longer trips v v more time off. This rule allows operators to op back-to-back trips, crews get hotac at base.
You could therefore be out numbered ?

mansaloco;

If I understand you correctly, your operator is using the derogation option (a)(2) of ORO.FTL.235 (reducing minimum rest from 12 hours to 10 with hotel provided) to justify not complying with CS FTL 1.235 (a)(1) Disruptive Schedules.

Do they explain how they relate these two seperate issues?

Reducing minimum rest from 12 to 10 hours when providing hotel accomodation at the base makes sense; travel time is reduced and external factors such as children, family, home stress etc are removed.

I fail to see how the same argument can be made for allowing roster disruptions at home base where adequate crewing should be available.
