Simulators online

Hi, I have a friend who is wanting to learn to fly but she is wishing to learn online first. She has subscribed to various forums and magazines etc. She is new to all this but is an able and willing learner.

Could you advise of the best way for her to learn apart from practical and theoretical exams at the local school or online?

Is that a full motion sim or do you have to rock the table? Probably have to make your own engine sounds too, right?

"Learning to fly online" is arguably about as useful as learning to drive, play billiard or perform surgery online.

Having said that, why not get a desktop PC sim (MSFS, X-plane, or FlightGear, whichever you prefer), register for a simmers' network (VATSIM or IVAO) and maybe go through some of the offered training sessions? It won't teach anyone how to fly an airplane, but offers a very fun, challenging, and immersive experience as well as some insight into the world of aviation.

I agree with Armchairflyer, invest in a good pc sim.

Alternatively, if your friend wants to follow the free route, try out Angle of Attack. They have some great videos (made in fight simulator) explaining the basics that may be very helpful to your friend.

They have a free account that lets you access the videos. I think for a new flying student, it would be quite helpful to visualize what different things look like while have a different view perspective of the aircraft.
