Cathay around the World Cargo Flights

Cathay has annouced around the world cargo service using B744 freighters.

Is there a market for such a service?

Does this entail cabatoge? Ex. can they carry cargo from the USA to Dubai?

I have the impression that Cathay has "operational" excellence.

No.

Quite likely yes.

The only 'cabotage' sector is ANC-ORD, and even that would be allowed to pickup at ANC for CHI if was part of a 'flight interchange' .

As you say, nowt new - run west-to-east give optimal payload/range blah blah blah

effectively it illustrates that lots of frtrs asia-USA full, USA-asia empty, so top up with AMS cargo, hope to pickup some more AMS cgo at CHI, pickup a bit of MEast cgo as well, hope to fill up a bit more at AMS, maybe you can get your lf up

Cabotage is transportation of goods or persons between points in the same country (sort of ....). So USA - DXB is not cabotage.

Country in this context can include overseas territories and dependencies, for example between the UK and some of the Caribbean Islands, Gibraltar, Falklands. Another example woud be between mainland France and its overseas terrories and departments, known as DOM/TOMs, such as Martinique, New Caledonia, etc.

Asiana also does RTW through the US and BRU.

so has Qatar
What routing?

So has QF
Not aware of this one either. All I knew of was the "Round-The-Pacific" SYD-PVG-ANC-ORD-(TOL-)HNL-SYD route.

So has FedEx
I was under the impression's FedEx RTW flights required a change of plane either in DEL or HKG.

Ex Cargo Clown 8th July 2010 17:13

CV used to (maybe still do) LUX-SIN-MEL-AKL-LAX-LUX

Flightwatch 9th July 2010 04:37

CV still do the rotation mentioned above and have done so for many years. Additionally in the past few months they have started 4 rotations a week LUX-(Middle East)-HKG-ANC-ORD-JFK-LUX
