Ocean Airlines (Italy) to add 6 B747/200F

Just found out on their website:

June 2007
Ocean Airlines purchases 6 B747-200F and launches 5 new destinations

Ocean Airlines announces the purchase of 6 additional B747-200F to be added to the current fleet (2 B747-200F). The new aircraft will be inducted and commence operations between July 2007 and April 2008 increasing Ocean Airlines fleet to 8 full freighter configuration 747 (5 nose loaders and 3 side loaders) aircraft.
The progressive increase of capacity will allow the Company to inaugurate as from September, 5 new routes: Abu Dhabi, Luanda, Nagoya, Nairobi and Washington.
The existing destinations of Ocean’s actual network, Almaty, Bishkek, Hong Kong, Lahore and Shanghai, will be strengthened with additional weekly frequencies. To service the new emerging markets in Africa, Middle East and America, Ocean Airlines will consolidate it’s position as a global all cargo carrier with 11 scheduled destinations in 4 continents.

how much do they pay?

BelArgUSA 6th July 2007 16:45

Contract captains are at US$ 8,000/mo - for 60 hrs or 20 days, extra for overtime or extra days.
F/Os and F/Es are at 2/3 of above = US$ 5,335/mo.
They are hiring, but age 60 is still limit for pilots...

Contact info

Any contact info for them? I have B747-200 time and am interested. Thanks.

FlyLowCost 7th July 2007 07:25

To contact them I suggest to write directly their Flight Ops Manager Captain Angelo Boscolo. Email address should be [email protected] but just contact them by phone before because I am not 100% sure about this email address.

Also on the cards Johannesburg, Miami and Kuala Lumpur.

That salary mentioned above....

I haven't flown for a couple of years, other than OFTs, is that considered a 'normal', or even a 'good' B747 Classic salary level these days?

It just seems a bit low to me, I was getting more than that some 3 years ago, flying the same type/model/job, and one of the reasons I left was the salary level wasn't up to the 'hassle-level'!

Comments....

BelArgUSA 8th July 2007 13:18

Low salaries excuses

Air Atlanta Iceland pays the same salaries...
Yet with Air Atlanta, you are NOT paid when taking time off...
I expect many Air Atlanta crews leaving for Ocean.

These salaries are low, I agree...

Funny is, they will say "we try to reduce our costs, so to compete in the cargo industry".
Fine, until you find out that they sell the tonne/kilometer at the same rate as anybody else.
Ocean sells at same rate as Air France, Lufthansa, Cargolux, Polar or Atlas
So - Who gets that money...? Shall we say it: management...

OCEAN salary

Our Contract as Comandante forsees the following amounts…net net after taxes and social contributions:

Minimum 50 hours € 3500 X 14 months

Flying 80 hours 5800 €

Flying 100 hours € 7300

To the above amounts you are to add per diems of 60 Eur per day roughly another 600 to 900 + +€

30 days vacation per year - 10 days of rest

FlyLowCost 14th July 2007 10:11

@TRITAR500

Out of the 14 months salary, the 12 you really work are paid upon the hours, but the 2 extra months paid on June and December are paid on the Minimum 50 hours € 3500, right??

Pension shame, extra personal insurance and loss of licence are paid by the company?

Engineer 14th July 2007 15:07

Be interesting to see what the gross salary at Ocean is for a captain? At another Italian company this has been quoted (for middle range seniority) at €6000/60hrs gross and for 80hrs €7300 gross.
The questions to ask, is if the flying hours per month exceeds the 50 hour minimum?
How many standbys are done per month and is there a payment for them?
May be tri500 could provide the answers

Glass Half Empty 1st August 2007 18:50

any updates on the new routes and whether recruitment is continuing and at the same salary rates?

FlyLowCost 2nd August 2007 14:37

From what I understand from Italian friends, they are quite desperate to recruit as much F/O as possible and they are very flexible on contract conditions and salary. However only EU nationality are taken.

Engineer 2nd August 2007 18:08

quite desperate to recruit
sounds like a recipe for disaster  but who knows until the result of the inquiry :\
