Up Up And Away

Just to let you know that Manston has lost one of its fixtures in the form of the B747 N801KH (formally S2 - ADT ). The aircraft lifted off shortly after 1300hrs making the short, gear down, ferry flight to a small airport just outside Bremen in Germany.

It was also noticed that MK continue to remove bits and bobs from the old AFX cargo aircraft formally G - GAFX parked on the "Wasp" at Manston.

hmm Interesting, do we know which airport this is and what the purpose of the movement was? Scrapping/Storage/Refurbishment?
The only ones I know of in that area are Lemwerder XLW (Maintenance & MRO facilities) or Cuxhaven Nordholz (ex-Military but developing freight airport).

Probably to be repainted, re-registered, and then to be sent to Africa.

If it does return to service, I pity the poor slobs who end up flying it, as I doubt that they will have known about the old crate's prior condition.

Flight plan showed the destination was ETNA, Ahlhorn. Just outside Bremen.

I see there's a number of pics of it arriving at Ahlhorn here:

Reversers on engines 1, 3, and 4 only:

The paperwork -- taped to the nose gear doors:

I suppose this was its very last flight...

N801KH - Ex Kittyhawk B747

Nice photographs of the aircraft arriving in Germany....I take it that the runway was wet hence the "spray cloud" in front of 3 & 4 engines....It also looks like a flock of birds trying to get out of the way of the mincing machines!
Sorry about the paperwork but all it says is keep your hands off......
I guess the new owners will carry out a costing exercise to see whether or not the old lady will fly again....it could be she is worth more in pieces....
