Official reply to the banning has been posted on the DAS Air website.
Date: 16 October 2006 : 15:00 GMT Issued By Dairo Air Services, Uganda/ DAS Air Cargo Dairo Air Services, Uganda wishes to put on record, in the strongest terms, its objection over the decision by the European Commission to include both Dairo Air Services and DAS Air Cargo on the most recent list of carriers banned from operating into and out of the European Union. Neither Dairo Air Services or DAS Air Cargo received any prior notification that the European Commission was considering such action, nor has any justification for this decision been received by the Ugandan Civil Aviation Authority, the airlines controlling authority. Therefore the company has been unable to exercise any right of defence, which is embodied within the spirit and letter of the European Union Directive which established the list. The Ugandan Civil Aviation Authority and the Airline have always responded to all communication from European airworthiness authorities when received; it is after all in the interest of both parties to do so. If any communication from the European Commission had been received prior to the publication of the list then we are certain that through dialogue an operating ban would have been avoided. The ban entered into effect from Midnight on 14 October 2006 and as a consequence, all operations to and from Europe have been suspended. In an effort to protect the business the company is making strenuous efforts to have the ban lifted, whilst a period of consultation can take place to resolve any concerns that the European Commission may have. This may please those companies that have operating bases within Europe using JAR registered aircraft and complying with JAR requirements (= expensive  ). |
It seems to me that DAS is making the wrong point here, focusing on the lack of notice time. If (disclaimer 1) their aircraft or procedures did have serious deficiencies and if (disclaimer 2) they were informed of these by Dutch and /or German authorities repeatedly in the past, than there is no reason for a grace period before a ban finally comes into affect. Does anybody have any factual information on what discrepancies were found in the past, where and how often?

Let me say that they were grounded a couple of times in AMS due to technical issues:cool:

DAS have stopped flying the MD11F or DC10F which ever aircraft they had.
ANA their cargo GSA have advised. |
I know that DasAir are trying to protect their contracts/customers by seeing if they can get ACMI rates with other carriers.
Also does anyone know who is the Ops Manager at Avient?? |

Looks like GCO are flying some DSR flights at the moment - presuming they've been sub-chartered but I can't imagine that's cheap. |
Rumour has it FW is in Brussels today pleading case to have suspension lifted. Aircraft still flying within Africa and Middle East
|
Das Air Need Someone To Maintain There Aircraft
Only six months ago DAS had a hanger full of experienced DC10 engineers, if they are considering operating in the EU this is what is required to keep the aircraft in an acceptable condition for the operations.
I hope you are reading this JR,DF,DD and C what's his name again!!! From the sun. :ok: |
avient ops are based in crawley tel 01293 519017
|
2nd Chance.
Hi Joe, David, Daryl,
Remember the quote you were given to maintain your aircraft to a acceptable level for operations in the EU, THAT NOW SEEMS TO BE A DROP IN THE OCEAN COMPARED TO THE REVENUE YOU ARE LOOSEING. Maintenance is a necessary cost for an airline and you cannot escape it!!! Hope you see the light as DAS could be a great cargo airline. M B   |
Serves them right.
|
Its a shame that they never took opportunities
with the MD11 any further, other than talk... I do hope they get through this problem. Correct Maintenance of the DC-10 fleet is essential for this to occur. JR please do something soon... BAe146??:{ :{ |

There's been two DAS movements at MSE this past week. One departure after maint and one arrival.
CAA obviously must've granted them permisson for the movements. |
The movements ex-MSE were for MX.

From the FAA website it appears 5X BON and DAS have made there way back onto the American register Also N402JR has been registered with a new owner as N450ML. Along with an engine for sale at the TMW works in England.
So looks like it could be a long road to recovery for DAS if the ban is lifted and that could be a big if :ugh: |
Engineer,
Are those a further reduction in the fleet, or are those original aircraft handed back before the ban was introduced. |
N402JR that became N450ML is now owned by Avient. 5X-DAS is returned to the leasing company but DAS have priority to get it back if/when things are back to normal. DAS may well be selling some engines as they have too many now for the fleet! Keep watching for news on the ban.
|
N402JR that became N450ML is now owned by Avient N402JR now N450ML is with Miami Leasing Inc, hence the ML in the registration. This company all ready lease DC10s to Arrow Air, may be the aircraft is destined for them as a replacement for this one :\ Fj1 DAS must be down to it last three aircraft. But there appears to be movement on 5XJOS/N400JR with a company called Airspeed Investment taking an interest  Wonder what will come first EU ban lifted or another aircraft returned to the bank.:= May be some one can spread light on what caused the sudden misfortunes of this company. Is there some truth that it was the result of a marital dispute :{ |
Apologies, it was indeed '401' that went to avient. JOS, JOE and ROY continue to fly for DAS at present.
Sudden misfortune all comes down to a Dutchman  |
Das Air
According their fleet schedule the 5X-ROY is at MSE for an A check and the 5X-JOS will arrive tdy 27th
at MSE for an A check..5X-DAS at CGK for an C check so only the 5X-JOE is flying around for the rest is N601GC from Gemini flying for them:) |
With 5X-DAS (now registered as N65SS) at CGX under going C Check then Finova must have a potential market for this aircraft along with the two engines for sale.
Rumour (true or not) is that the monthly leasing cost is around $100,000 per month. :ok: May be it is going here in February. A Dutchman :suspect: responsible for the company demise sounds like an Austin Powers movie :D |
5X-JOS is due to depart to Southern California Logistics Airport tomorrow(KVCV) from MSE obviously for storage. Another one bites the dust....
