Mail Flights for 2005
Happy new year to you all out there.
Looking into 2005 and mail flights can anybody confirm these Bournemouth to Guernsey - Emerald Airways Bournemouth to Guernsey / jersey- Air Contractors Gatwick - Air Contractors Southampton to Guernsey - Emerald Airways Southampton to Jersey - Emerald Airways Any more |
This post may have been better suited in the Freight Dogs bit but anyway...
Gatwick - Air Contractors There was speculation (in Freight dogs) that Air Contractors were looking at replacing the ex BAC Express & Channel Express F27s with ATR42/72s. Fried Chicken |
Emerald are to operate Coventry - Hamburg, each evening Mon - Fri, from Jan 05.
|
However, Coventry flights are for Parcel Force, who despite being part of the Royal Mail, Parcel Forces flight ops are completely seperated from Royal Mails ops.

Southampton to Guernsey - Emerald Airways
Southampton to Jersey - Emerald Airways ?????!!!!! New route or typing error..... |
The Coventry - Hamburg route is on behalf of Lynx.
|
SOU must have been a typing error...no scheduled cargo flights there.
Southend however has stolen a nightly mail flight from Bournemouth. Hope the ATRs replace the F27's quick. |
Re Southampton
From another source Permit Application. Emerald Airways Limited to operate a scheduled air cargo/mail service between Southampton and Jersey. The Permit would be effective from 17 January 2005 and have applied to operate a scheduled cargo service between Southampton and Guernsey |
To clear up any misunderstanding:
Application to fly Southampton/Guernsey and Southampton/Jersey has been applied for as a scheduled cargo routes. Application granted to fly Bournemouth?Guernsey as a scheduled cargo route. See http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/213/1676.pdf for official confirmation. |
Looks like it could be an interesting challenge to the BOH freight flights operated by Air Contractors (ex-Channex). Would make particular sense if they can secure the flower and general freight business previously covered by Channel Express. As most of this traffic originates or terminates well to the east of BOH then SOU would be a good choice, at least geographically. For quite a few years these flights operated from BOH because of the tie up between Channex operating newspaper and mail flights overnight and having available aircraft for the C.I. flights during the day. Now however this is not the case and the other (non-aviation) freight companies in the Dart Group may prefer to use an airport nearer to their current operating areas. And there has been a good working relationship between Channex and Emerald over the years.

If the SOU licences are granted, it will be interesting to see how they would operate, out of SOU, with their restrictions on night flights & restricted parking.
|
JER and GCI are also closed at night so no problem with the proposed routes. However can't see Emerald having their aircraft grounded at SOU all night when the rest of the cargo fleet is at it's busiest.
Sure somewhere out of the way could be found for parking, after all they won't need the terminal. |
There has been an Air Contractors F-27 at Bournemouth this week , so guess somethings happening with this now
