Antonov 22 info
 

Hi All

Usually I post on the African forum, but we had an interesting visitor to Libreville on Monday, an AN 22. I have not seen one in West or Southern Africa before. Info on payload, MTOW, engine power, much appreciated

CR2 sums it up by the links, but I have to add that the AN22 is one hell of an aircraft to fly on. Believe me, I've done it several times ;)

Antonov Airlines through Air Foyle Heavylift are the only commercial operators of the An22 in the world. To my knowledge this is the only example flying on a commercial AOC. Details on the link CR2 supplied. Fantastic acft. It has recently come out of a year long refit and refurbishment at Antonov's HQ in Kiev.

..and she's just departed STN about ten minutes ago; should have left at 0700 but was delayed - bless you, whoever it was that kept it on the ground - I've just had the unforgettable experience of seeing one airborne!

Its parked on the ramp here in LUX at the moment. Destination apparently KWI, though had a good look at a container marked Baghdad.

An22 - Wonderful Aircraft
 

Hi, An22 MTOW 245,000Kgs engines HK-12MA NK-12MA UR-09307 c/n 043481244. She is the only commercial operated An22, I have been told that the Russian Air Force either are flying two or have two that are airworthy. The rest of the An22's sit in a nice long line....:sad:

She left LUX at 1845Z on route to KWI ETA 0145Z....She is due in ARN on the 27th/28th Oct & back into STN on the 31st Oct. Sat under the wing on Thursday just gone, beutiful machine, unfortuantely did not get on it as crew were still at the hotel. Oh well, maybe on 31st.....

Have you tried to knock the door actually? Normally loadmasters and ground engs of this bird are never leave it for hotel, they are based onboard all the times.

Had an Antonov beauty contest on the ramp of BAH the other day; An-22, An-124 and An-225 all lined up next to each other. Quiet a sight.

What are the odds that the only commercially operated An-22 and -225 would be visiting the same airport at the same day?

The Red Arrows also put up a bit of a show here last week. The things they do for us desert rats ;)

You are joking, right? The ramp is sprawling with US metal and I wouldn't be so stupid as pointing a camera in their general direction. They might mistake me for a terrorist (or Brit, or Canadian) and direct fire on me. Sorry mate, no piccies :sad:

One went into the BAe airfield at Warton a couple of weeks ago.

i dont know where people get this idea from, I am a Flight Manager flying on mainly AN124 but also AN22 and AN225 and all A/C have bunks onboard which the crew including technicians use during the flight but after offloading is finished and time is available, all technicians L/M , everyone goes to hotel and A/C gets locked up
