Ex-Atlas exec to set up Volga-Dnepr scheduled ops unit

Russian outsize freight carrier Volga-Dnepr is to create a new subsidiary through which to operate scheduled Europe-China services and has appointed former Atlas Air sales and marketing chief Stanley Wright to head the management team setting it up.

Wright is to work on the project with Vitaly Kuzmin, who was hired from Aeroflot’s cargo division last month.

“So far we have specialised in outsize freight services,” says a company spokesman. “Their global volume does not exceed $400 million a year while the turnover in the scheduled cargo market averages $50 billion.

“We could ensure rapid and stable growth by entering this market and expect our business to triple afterwards.”

The planned cargo operator will be registered abroad and operate leased freighters. Volga-Dnepr is in advanced talks on taking two Boeing 747Fs with a view to using them on for scheduled services between Western Europe and China. The company is expected to identify the proposed routes as well as reveal a branding for its new subsidiary during the Paris Air Show.

Volga-Dnepr chairman Alexey Isaikin says that Wright brings experience and business links within the sector, and adds: “I hope he will eventually make the new business comparable in volume to our present core activity.”

general consensus, this one has a long way to go yet,cant see aeroflot sharing scheduled rights just yet on there far east ops.

The word at Atlas was he lost more work than he found. He's a "Big" westerner and the Asia's had no use for him. Rumour had it, he put Korean Air execs in the local crew dive hotel (5 Towns) and told them to get a taxi when they visited a few years ago. He was fired as well, with little notice......any questions?
