Guppy to be based at Teesside

The Conroy CL44 Guppy is to be delivered to Teesside over the next two weeks and will operate cargo charters from here.It was once EI-BND with Heavylift and has been in the states for the last 3 years. It will remain on the Zaire register and be maintained by Heavylift. The ferry route will be Smyrna-Gander-Keflavik-MME.;) ;)

Heavylift went into receivership last Monday

The "Guppy" is on the Ghanaian register and will remain there.

The routing will not come via Keflavik and I am not too sure that Heavylift will be in a position to do the maintenance.

Apart from the above you were close.

Heavylift went into receivership last Monday
....oh, really?

BRISTOLRE 2nd Sep 2002 12:26

HEAVYLIFT IN RECEIVERSHIP???

Reference to HLA, how true is this?
Naturally, they are merged with Air Foyle with the commerical cargo charters, were you reffering to HCA (Heavylift Cargo Airlines) including Prime (G-HLAD).
They only have this one, a Shorts Belfast and 3xA300F (HLAA,HLAB,HLAC).
Is the HCA Airline in recievership?

BRISTOLRE you seem confused about the structure of HeavyLift. HeavyLift Engineering is the company in administration. This will not effect HeavyLift Cargo Airlines or Prime, and certainly not Air Foyle HeavyLift who do the marketing for the An124s.

As for the Guppy 9G-LCA I really don't believe the rumours. Lots of people say the Guppy is going back to HeavyLift, I can't believe that someone has spent money on the aircraft to retro fit it with TCAS and GPWS. Regardless of what is said I don't believe we will ever see the Guppy flying commercial in Europe again however nice that would be to see. Maybe they will tramp it round Africa for a bit, until one day it accidentally has a gear up landing.
Personally I would prefer to see the Guppy at Duxford, living its days out gracefully.
Sure Hales and Pace know it it really won't sell, and won;t get involved anyway.

Not confused about Heavylift, must have been the way I worded it. These recent happenings also covered in another thread in reporting points.
There has been a lot of doubt cast recently over the airline which concerns me, e.g. A300F being parked for one.
It also appears clearly that there are problems on the Engineering company as well.

Back to the subject at hand, yes the guppy will have a problem in Europe when it comes to t/rights unless they are considering a change of registration.
Africa seems the obvious one but this Guppy could fill a hole in the market left by one of the SC5s being decomissioned (1 remaining).

An addition at Duxford by either species, as you say, would be a graceful way to do it!

the old guppy is scheduled to dep MQY Thurs or Friday this week.

It has been fitted with TCAS and origin is Southampton

There are no plans to depart from MQY on Thu or Fri and there never was. The Guppy will be departing in the very near future to earn a living as and when contracts are available. Remember, with the swing tail she can take akward bulky loads.

She was quite upset when I told her you thought she was ready for Duxford!!

:(

To all of you Guppy followers

9G-LCA is scheduled to leave Smyrna this morning for YQX. And on Friday (yes I know it is the 13th) proceed to MME probably arriving PM, if we can find a following wind.

The A300 is now gone back to it's owners so Prime is no longer.

Guppy Update

To All Guppy Followers

The old lady got a little nervous about depating Smyrna and has decided to stay a few more days. In the meantime it will give us time to correct a minor problem we had on startup.

She thinks she will be up to it early next week.
