L188c Lockheed Electra Image
To any old Hunting Cargo / Air Contractors crew out there.
Thought I would post this here as a reminder to some of simpler times. A friend and colleague of mine at Easyjet is a talented artist. I suggested to him some time ago that he paint one of the old Electra that I used to fly. He has just come up with this image. I did tell him that at least one engine should we secured with a feathered prop to make it more lifelike but he has ignored my advice. The quality of the image has suffered a bit with multiple cut and pastes with poor pixelation. Normally he sells prints but of course that's not possible at the moment. Nonetheless I thought I would share it here. Good times. Best regards to any of my old colleagues (4 screw aircrew) that pick up on this. Take care of yourselves. You all can come to my house and watch the P-3's doing touch and gos 2-3 days a week.
It's just an Electra with a different paint job and a big doodad on the rear end! |
The Atlantic Airlines shots - Coventry Airshow 2003?
If so I was on the flight deck as spray operator, good times. |

I remember watching movements from a car park at Miami Airport's Cockroach Corner 35 years ago - two arrivals with one engine feathered, a DC-7 and, yes, an Electra - can't recall whose.

I did 7 years on the Electra night freighting around Europe.
9 in flight engine shutdowns. Pretty average I think. |
dixi188 I counted them up when I finished on the Electra, about 3 per 1000 hours, mainly chip lights.

EWIS,not so, they were in 2001,trials for CAA approval; think this was after flutter test flight, and keeping the grass green.....

You can see them weekly on Mikey MCbryan s YouTube channel.

Regards to all mates/colleagues who suffered at the hands of TPI in Miami supposedly being taught to fly the Electra. Most of us ended up in Edmonton, Canada to get the appropriate licence.
Well retired in very rural Norfolk, many, many fond thoughts of my mate Les Manley. 😎 |
Happy memories of many hours flying Electras for Channel. And the Flight Engineers always there with us!
|
I joined Channel for a period as Air World decided they would shut down for the winter and then re-employ in Spring. When Caledonian started up I went there but was fortunate to have met one of life’s good guys Mike Nash, sadly deceased.
