Moving Horses ?

Is it only the likes of KLM , Cargolux etc and B747 types ? Given that they have to be flown in the approved " box" - does this box only fit the widebodied jets ? What if you wanted to scale the whole operation down to smaller jet / shorter flights / Europe only ? Could it be done ?

Tex Sutton Forwarding in Lexington Kentucky has the stuff to turn a 727 into a flying barn for up to 21 horses and 16 pax. They are not an air carrier but enter into a long term contract for an airplane. Flew their contracted plane off and on for two years. Great flying. When ATC learned there were horses aboard we were a level below "Life Guard." Coming off Farmington, Long Island one day departure wanted us to tighten up a turn. I replied I had 12 horses standing in back. In 30 seconds we were cleared direct 300 miles down the route.

As above, West Atlantic have a dedicated B737 (based in the UK) for moving horses. Also ASL Europe (TNT) regularly use their 146s for moving horses around Europe.

Jota Aviation at Southend have the BAe 146-300QT Freighters that used to fly horses with TNT and ASL. Think they carry 8/10 Horses. ASL no longer operate the 146.

ASL Belgium does quite a few horse charters with 737-400.

Yes they do, it's a 737-300 G-JMCL, room for up to 15 horses plus a few seats at the back for grooms, vets, etc.

How many HMs can you fit on a 737?

ER-AFZ was an AN72 dedicated to moving race horses around Europe. Not sure if it still exists.

We have a specialized pallet that just goes through the freight door like a cargo container, and carry horses on regular scheduled freight runs- B737-400F in Australia.
