Hi Folks,

Few questions for the Cargolux drivers out there:

As an average how many days off (at home) do you get per month? Are you pretty much getting the 6+3 off and then in between it's all flying, or do you get a little bit more than that (11 days off total per month is a little low i would think)?

On top of bidding for your days off, can you also bid for trips?

For staff travel, is it easy to go on vacation using the 747 upper deck when you have a wife and 2 kids? I would assume lots of people willing to go to the same places at the same time when only a couple of seats are available!! From what i could read CLX does not have any other staff travel agreement except with Luxair?

Are there any opportunities for FOs to become instructors? in this case is how much is the allowance for SFI or TRI?

I read the whole thread but no specific answers to those questions. Thanks for the message though.

With the risk that some may percieve me as arrogant and rude…perhaps even old and grumpy (the latter being of some validity), I cannot help but wonder what on earth motivates anyone to ask questions like that.
I would suggest that you apply, pass the entrance test, get a starting date…and then wonder about all the other stuff…

What is wrong with finding out about a place before you apply for a job?

That just amazingly bad foresight not being old and grumpy. Why would you apply and go through all the hassle without knowing if the job will be workable with your situation? Its neither cheap on transport or time off or easy going through selection. Airlines expect you to do due diligence on their lifestyle and going in prepared so as you're not wasting their time. They do due diligence on you after all. No harm in research.

6+3 is what you get. This does not rule out the odd blank day.

You can bid for trips. For the few nice ones you need seniority or luck.

Travelling with wife and two kids means looking for trouble. There are not many destinations left where you can go easily.

F/Os do work in the training department in different positions. The reward is minimal and does not compensate for the lost extras on the line. Most likely they even lose money but gain more time at the homebase.

Please bear in mind that our profession is going down the drain. Selfinduced I would say: self sponsored type ratings, P2F, etc..
Our management too is following this path and is in these days trying to bring our T&Cs down as well as outsourcing our jobs to Cargolux Italia, where pilots think it is a good idea to fly a B744 for roughly 3000€ a month.

Lifestylewise it also makes a huge difference if a cargoairline operates 2, 5, 10 or 20 aircraft. The nice historic one week layovers are gone now.

And now what are the T&C's in Cargolux Italia. They advertised in aviation jobs.me.
Rosters and salaries?
