Evergreen Closing Down??

Anybody know if this is true or not? Or know anything more on it?

Evergreen International Airlines, McMinnville-based air freight company, will reportedly close Nov. 29 | OregonLive.com

Sorry to see them go if it is.

Desert185 8th Nov 2013 10:49

They haven't been paying their 747-200 simulator monthly fees to United DENTK and Evergreen has been denied access to their sim for awhile. Doesn't look good for them.

When the boss doesn't say "No" that means yes. They've been routing ANC to JFK off the west coast of Canada in Oakland's airspace till they turn east south of Seattle. Rumor was they couldn't pay NavCanada the overflight fees.

Evergreen Press Release

and to save you going through here's the text:

As has been previously reported in the press, Evergreen's business has been adversely impacted over the past several years by decreased demand in military spending and weakness in global economic markets. Management has moved to aggressively address these challenges, including through the divestiture of businesses and assets and the significant reduction of secured debt. Evergreen is in discussions with its significant constituencies and is exploring available strategic alternatives with those constituencies. While Evergreen generally does not comment on market rumor or conjecture, rumors that a decision has been made to cease operations at this time are false. Evergreen remains committed to continuing to address the current business environment with its customers.

Very sad!

sidman 9th Nov 2013 22:02

We can't fly over Canada at all.. Smith want to keep flying so we can do the UPS peak flying. He has to get every penny he can get before he shuts down.

Desert185 9th Nov 2013 23:33

Give my regards to Lou-uh-ville.

sidman 10th Nov 2013 04:32

We will never see it..

Desert185 10th Nov 2013 12:54

Sorry. I was a non-sched guy a long time ago. It was actually my favorite airline flying. Hope all works out well for you.

TowerDog 10th Nov 2013 21:46

I was with Evergreen years ago also, hope they make it, had fun there and first job in jets, DC-8s, not for the faint of hearth.

Sorry to see them go

I started with the Zone in 1988 and flew the 727 and 747 while I was there.

I wish them well if the news is true.

TowerDog 11th Nov 2013 11:51

I started with the Zone in 1988
Ditto, February 1988 class on the DC-8-73, than in the fall B-747 on the Air France Cargo contract.

Hope you guys make it...

Not Good

Off and on for 7 years with EIA. very sad. I certainly learnt the trade and the job introduced me to so many other job avenues. Any one know if they were still giving the Per Diem for international of 48 USD ? that always made me laugh with Pot Noodles in hotel rooms try to survive.

SASless 11th Nov 2013 15:51

If there is any good in all this....let's hope Delford loses his own personal financial ass out of all this. Would love to see him standing in McMinnville Traffic with a cardboard sign in hand.

Lord knows he always played the hard ass with the folks he employed in the Helicopter Side of things. Karma can be so fickle sometimes!

Desert185 12th Nov 2013 13:52

From a friend. I don't know the source.

"CALL IT A WAR CASUALTY (OR LACK OF ONE), BUT ACCORDING TO REPORTS, EVERGREEN INTERNATIONAL WILL GO OUT OF BUSINESS AT THE END OF THIS MONTH, GROUNDING THE FLEET AND LAYING OFF 131 WORKERS.
MONIQUE GREGORY, EVERGREEN’S HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER, WAS QUOTED IN THE OREGONIAN STATING IN A MEMO TO ALL THE AIRLINE’S EMPLOYEES THAT THE PRIVATELY HELD COMPANY WOULD END OPERATIONS ON NOV. 30.
“THE LOSS OF OUR COMPANY IS VERY UNFORTUNATE,” GREGORY WROTE.
“HOWEVER, WE APPRECIATE YOUR CONTINUED EXCELLENT SERVICE DURING THIS ENDING PHASE.”
THE BIG QUESTION IN MCMINNVILLE, OREGON, A TOWN OF 33,000 ABOUT 30 MILES SOUTHWEST OF PORTLAND, IS WHETHER EVERGREEN’S NONPROFIT OPERATIONS—MAJOR TOURIST DRAWS CONCEIVED BY FOUNDER DELFORD SMITH—WILL SURVIVE. THE EVERGREEN WINGS & WAVES WATERPARK AND THE EVERGREEN AVIATION & SPACE MUSEUM OPENED A HALF DOZEN YEARS AGO, WITH HOWARD HUGHES SPRUCE GOOSE AS THE MAIN ATTRACTION.
THE 70,000-SQUARE-FOOT WATER PARK HAS BECOME A LOCAL LANDMARK, WITH A GIANT EVERGREEN B747-100 AIRCRAFT PERCHED ON THE ROOF."

Its an excellent museum worth the visit right across the highway from McMinnville (MMV) airport. The FBO has a loaner car for those who fly in.

sidman 12th Nov 2013 14:03

It is still $48.00 per day.

beerdrinker 12th Nov 2013 15:30

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Evergreen converted and now fly the 744 Guppy for Boeing. What is going to happen to that contract?

BD

WhaleDriver 12th Nov 2013 15:48

Atlas Air took over that operation years ago.

Need to Know Basis 13th Nov 2013 12:01

Per Diem

Unbelievable.....$48 per diem. It stopped buying you breakfast 5 years ago when you had to to GVA or anywhere in W. Europe ! I remember the Turkish 300F drivers laughing at it. They were at $100 a long time ago.

tdracer 13th Nov 2013 18:34

The 747 Large Cargo Freighters (LCF), better know as 'Dreamlifters' were converted by an outfit in Taiwan working under Boeing direction and to Boeing developed drawings.

After STC, they were operated by Evergreen for a while but as WhaleDriver notes that contract was transferred to Atlas a while back (which now has a "Dreamliner Service Center" at Paine Field in Everett.

Del Smith threatened to sue Boeing for breach of contract when it happened, but I don't know if anything ever became of it.

BTW, I hope the museum in McMinnville survives OK
