RR powered 747 Freighter?

There was an RR powered B747 in Luxembourg last week, was it the old MK freighter flying again??

ErwinS 1st Feb 2011 05:54

You mean TF-ATX?

The AvgasDinosaur 1st Feb 2011 07:15

If it helps I have found 5 B.747-236 freighters still extant.
c/n 22304 as TF-AAB
c/n 22442 as TF-AAA
c/n23711 as TF-ATX (as nominated above)
All 3 are apparently active, plus 2 in store
c/n 23735 as TF-ARJ
c/n 24088 as TF-ATZ
Not sure where they are stored though.
Hope it helps
Be lucky
David

Perhaps TF-AAA? It's a very frequent visitor in LUX.

ATX was G-MKLA so I think he means this one. She is back into service with Air Atlanta.

Interesting photo of TF-ATX .

Last I heard TF-ARJ and TF-ATZ are still parked in Malasia never having completed there Lease Handback C Checks.

Would think they are a bit damp now.

sidman 1st Feb 2011 14:18

TF-AAB is flying for Saudi...

superspotter 1st Feb 2011 17:28

AAA is just getting towards the end of it's C-check and will be back in LUX operating for cargolux next week. ATX is also operating out of LUX but not for CLX...

CR2 2nd Feb 2011 08:58

Just to be pedantic, they are conversions, not pure freighters. In general, lower floor limits/payload.

RR Powered B747 Freighters

Just to be even more pedantic, do you mean all B747 RR powered freighters are conversions? Cause if you do it is not so. The three CX RB 211-524 powered B747-200F's during my time there were all freighters from the factory.

main_dog 2nd Feb 2011 10:58

RR powered dedicated freighters

Good old HVX, HVY and HVZ!

:ok:

CR2 2nd Feb 2011 12:38

No, no Mr Fella, I referred to the above ones. Sorry confusion :(

Old Fella 3rd Feb 2011 08:26

RR Powered B747-200F Freighters

Maindog most certainly was the three. VR-HVY came to CX from BA and HVX & HVZ came direct from Boeing as I recall. Don't know about you, but the Freighter ops were always best. The "Humane Killer" could be used on unruly live freight if required. Thanks CR2, no problems.:)

OldCessna 3rd Feb 2011 14:18

I believe the aircraft was an original combi but was modded to total freighter with the high weight floor.

Was on UK reg its now back on Icelandic

CR2 3rd Feb 2011 15:32

Old Cessna,

Which one?

I have never seen a conversion that can carry more than 110T. 108-ish is the norm.

This does not include the 5 or so 200C's that were built (convertible from cargo to pax, nose-door, extended zfw... 118.5T depending on OEW (or DOW if you prefer)).

Always happy to learn tho' :)

OldCessna 3rd Feb 2011 23:49

I believe it was ATX

747JJ 4th Feb 2011 14:19

TF-ATZ had total load of 107149 kg some years back. I was cleaning my flightbag and there was an OFP there from March 2006. Interesting what kind of garbage one carries in those bags. One would think that ATX was very similar.

747 forever 18th Feb 2011 08:48

isn't Cargolux's 747s all RR powered?

ErwinS 18th Feb 2011 08:54

No not all have RR power, and those are 400's.

OldCessna was talking about a classic. Most probably TF-ATX.

airwaygill 1st Mar 2011 12:17

I confirm TF-ATX was in LUX last month, though haven't seen her again after that visit.
w/regards to CV, remaining -400F fleet is all RR powered since this week (not counting the BCFs).

What about LX-KCV? ;)

ErwinS 1st Mar 2011 14:22

KCV is with Cargolux Italia......

Tank2Engine 1st Mar 2011 14:28

KCV is with Cargolux Italia......
Gee thanks ErwinS, I did not know that...

KCV is only leased, not sold to CLX Italia. It's still LX registered, flown by CLX pilots.

Should, for whatever reason (;)), the lease end it will return to CLX.

ErwinS 1st Mar 2011 15:04

Do see that I said something like sold to???.... I know she is leased to... But she is not active in the regular CLX fleet .... Duh...

747 forever 7th Mar 2011 07:35

mrmoo 22nd May 2011 23:38

Another RR powered classic turned up in LUX tonight, TF-ARJ, sister ship to TF-ATX. Will be put on the Magma contract.

ScootCargoOps 23rd May 2011 07:48

What routes are they operating? Africa?

superspotter 24th May 2011 05:11

Africa mainly although early last year I also visited that nice friendly place, Afghanistan courtesy of Magma.

acmi48 27th May 2011 11:36
