Dangerous Goods - Europe to USA
Which cargo airline would be able to handle a shipment of ejection seat pyrotechnical cartridges (around 50kg) from Central Europe to the USA ?
Anyone flown with this particular type of cargo ? |
Aseanaero,
you might contact Amsterdam based Martinair Cargo. KLM subsidiary Martinair specializes in carriage of perishables and dangerous goods. :ok: MD-11's are operating to several destinations in the USA. Also trucking services available. Regards, TS 737 |
Hi Aseanaero,
If it is properly packed and documented according to regulations, any cargo carrier will gladly take your shipment to the States. Everybody is desperate for freight so every shipment is welcome. You can also try Cargolux, LH Cargo, AF Cargo or even Emirates SkyCargo out of HHN. Good luck. |
Try FedEx, they handle all classes of DG's, especially to the USA.

I've read somewhere on this forum that AAI (Air Atlanta) have a DG certificate, and can carry DG.

Is it 1.4S PAX OK or CAO?
|
Hi Scoot
HCC (Hazard Classification Class) 1.4C UN Class 0276 I think it would have to go on a non-pax aircraft ( I wouldn't be happy to have my kids fly on the same aircraft as that stuff !) Squib cartridges for firex systems for a commercial aircraft are also difficult to find shippers for and the shipping costs more than the cartridge. . |

( I wouldn't be happy to have my kids fly on the same aircraft as that stuff !) That's why all DG's come under the IATA DG regulations and all involved are fully trained to handle. You'd be very surprised what is sitting 2 metres below your butt when you are settled in your SLF seat ........ |

BA World Cargo fly from Frankfurt to the US, if any help. |
Also be very very very precise and correct with your paperwork for the shipment, especially photocopies of any original documents.
Having shipped radioactive material in a similar route you can get yourself into a whole world of hurt if there's any doscrepancies in your documentation. We had an issue where one photocopied sheet of an original certificate out of a package of a hundred-plus pages had a smudge at some of the figures, none of which were really relevant to the shipment & none of which were actually illegible. Net result - held at customs for investigation for many weeks & eventually it took one of us to fly out with the original document & one of our senior board members flying in from our US office to countersign our declaration, taking local responsibility for the shipment before it got released. Two identical shipments previously & three subsequent ones went off without a hitch |
UN0276, Class 1.4C
aseanaero, this commodity is forbidden on PAX aircraft, Cargo Aircraft Only, max 75 Kgs
Depending on the origin, FX is still the best bet if feeder aircraft to their CDG HUB is a FX aircraft. Donkey 497, try DGM (Dangerous Goods Management) in ABZ if you have further problems as will save you bundles on unnecessary airfares and wasted time. |
Thanks Ron,
Some of the packages are quite nasty , solid fuel rockets , so not surprised it's not allowed on a pax aircraft . It will be interesting to see the shipping boxes later. |
