Is this good? How many aircraft does this involve? Hopefully it'll save a few jobs at ABX.
How will that be crewed, especially the down under stuff? Like the ANA basing?

DHL, Qantas sign ATSG

AIR Transport Services Group (ATSG) has secured two deals to provide widebody airfreight services.

The first deal is with DHL affiliate European Air Transport, running a six-days-a-week charter service between Brussels (Belgium) and Lagos (Nigeria) with ATSG subsidiary ABX Air. Part of the deal also includes ABX Air and a new ATSG subsidiary, Airborne Maintenance and Engineering Services, maintaining the aircraft.

The second deal is with Qantas Airways subsidiary, Qantas Freight. That deal will run for two years and involves ATSG’s Air Transport International using Boeing 767-200-SF aircraft to run an overnight service between Australia and New Zealand every Monday through Thursday.

“The aircraft will have a payload of approximately 42 tonnes and will also be made available for charter work and weekend rotations when demand exists,” said executive manager of Qantas Freight, Stephen Cleary.

The deals are part of ATSG’s attempts to claw back business after DHL Express’ departure from Wilmington, Ohio gutted the company’s revenue and town’s employment.

Unfortunately the BRU/LOS deal is short term until the DHL Air B763 comes on line.

Any news on ABX picking up the TNT A300 work?

What's the logic behind Lagos being served from Brussels instead of Leipzig ?

Reason could be traffic rights. DHL is doing Lagos for quite a while (years) and after the A300 and B757 were used in past days, recently DC10, MD11 and Kalitta? B742 were on the route. Maybe DHL only has the right to go to Lagos from BRU.

Any news on ABX picking up the TNT A300 work?

I'm interested as well. Any one knows anything? I saw two ABX 767's in Liege last week. I hope TNT don't take any other airline to do TNT job if they get ride of people at the same time.

ABX Air didn't get the Qantas contract. It is ATI another company along with Captial Air cargo that falls under the ever increasing ATSG umbrella. The extra 767 airplane sitting at Leige was a recovery flight for ABX and actually the JFK- EBLG run was from another contractor. ABX is stil furloughing pilots and leasing the former ABX aircraft after they come out of the mod line to competitors-- Ameri-Jet, some canadian company along with other 76s going to ATI.

The word this weekend down in Lagos is that DHL have just announced the virtual closure of EAT's base at Brussels with approx. 250 redundancies due to transfer of OPS to Leipzig.

So maybe the work for ABX might be long term ?

And does these layoffs include any Flight Crew based in Brussels or the UK, or does everyone have the opportunity to move to Leipzig if they wish ?

And how long, I wonder, before they start thinking about moving the UK-based Ops to Leipzig ?

the operations of ABX at brussels wil stop in september when DHL recieve a new 763 straight from Boeing.

a few mec's wil stay at brussels for the daily operations EAT has.
