Hitch a ride from Phuket
 

I am desparate to get myself, some luggage, a few cats and 4 large horses out of Phuket, Thailand . There is an animal control office at HKT so it is possible, there are just no commercial freight flights out .
Charter pricing is out of the question . Anyone flying a charter going by.. I would pay very well-combined weight would be about 2000 kg and I don't care where it is going as long as it is OUT of ASIA !!
Of course all needed quarantine, etc is ready

4 large horses and you reckon only 2000kgs?

Are you putting them on a diet or something before they travel?

Oh and by the way there are very strict guidleines for moving animals and livestock. You dont just walk them up the steps on to the aircraft.

I would strongly suggest you do some research 1st, unless you are on a wind up.

Asia is a big place as am I sure you know. So what has an entire continent done to upset ya?

Now why would anyone want to leave Phuket. I loved the place.

The 4 nags alone will be over 2T (I always use 600kg/head for rough planning). Two horse boxes HMA or similar... Plus all your other stuff. That's going to be an expensive job.

I guess getting yourself & freight over to BKK is out of the question... ?

If you had a stick with a spotted hankie on the end you might have some chance but with the contents of Noahs Ark in tow, the term 'hitch a ride' is a bit of a pi$$ take.

Maybe before accusing the lady of taking the pee, you should have noted her e-mail address i.e. phuket horse rescue.

truck everything to BKK, that's most realistic option.

The horse weigh, 350 k 400 k 420 k and about 550 so that's under 2000 k.

And I know all about quarantine, etc and the HKT Animal control officer will facilitate. but need 30 day advance in order to apply for inport from prospective country

No airline in Thailand will deal w me directly, I have to go through an "agent" it was going to be 100,000 USD - (typical Thai, " rip off the Farang for all you can .." ) to AMS
However the recent cargo downturn and MaskAir will do it for under 20,000 but have to get to KL , Malaysia which is quite a drive and through a very dangerous area in South Thailand.
(They would even divert a 747 F to HKT for another 14,000 USD, way outta budget though )

btw ;Thailand may a nice place to visit, lots of sex tourists say so...but living here is a nightmare..

I wish I could tell you something helpful, but I don't know of a cheap way! Why don't you contact some TV show to see if they'll make some kind of reality thing out of it: Last horse journey out?!
Like Discovery, or National Geographic.

Or maybe some animal rights group to help with the cost??

Is the ultimate destination AMS?
Have you considered shipping them seperatly? That may be easier than trying to move them all at once.

BKK is going to be your best option, large number of Freighter operates using the airport.

Its unlikely your going to be able to travel with the horses unless you have the credentials of a trainer.

The only thing is they are probably going to want to go through an agent due to payment etc.

I'm not sure if HKT has the Eqpt i.e. M/deck highloader at the airport?

I don't completely disagree with you FCS, but, without attempting to speak for the poster, I suspect she realizes this. It also appears that she has become frustrated and is ready to move on but does not wish to leave behind the horses that she has invested much of her heart and soul into which I can certainly understand.

IMHO, she had the greatest of intentions, but sometimes conditions wear on you to the point where you have to move on where you can be of some help somewhere else. If conditions are as bad as described there, I can certainly understand not wanting to leave the horses behind. If she can pay for the transport, whats the problem?
