Anyone else fed up of bloody security in the UK?
 

I'll keep this short to prevent a rant but I'm sick to the back teeth of being subjected to the same ridiculous security measures as passengers and crew of passenger AC. Why are trivial items such as water, toothpaste, anti-perspirant etc etc still being removed from us when the only people on board are the crew. I have tried a polite letters to the DofT backed up by a phone calls and as yet no response.
Anyone else fed up with this? What can be done? :ugh:

I think everyone is fed up. As to what can be done,
'not much' is the answer. Security has turned into a juggernaut fueled by fear and stupidity. It's going to be a very long time before it gets any better, methinks. On the plus side, they do seem to have dialed back the surly attitudes in a big way. A few years ago, attitudes were the norm. At least that aspect is only rarely encountered these days, which is something. Still, I feel that if they took a less hands on approach and got to grips with the bigger picture, it would serve security better. Unfortunately, those that make up these policies haven't chosen their careers as an alternative to rocket science..

I think 'fear and stupidity' is a little on the strong side. They assure me that their actions are merely in response to the percieved threat levels. As someone involved albeit on the rim I see a need for more and a far greater level of consistancy. Be in no doubt that that there are plenty out there particularly in the UK plotting as we complain. Futhermore I have little sympathy with crews as they in themselves pose a threat to each other particularly with the ethnic diversity within the UK alone.

I think they need to use a little common sense at times!

Funny as it may sound, I suspect they are required not to.
They are drilled to do a set sequence of actions, and must not deviate from that.
case in point - A friend of mine has a small pair of glass in a thin plastic case. He showed them (DXB security chimps) the specs and case, but they refused to let him carry them through the magnetic detector. They had to go through the x-ray machine.
I too pondered this, and I suspect it's an arse-covering thing so if there's an incident on the plane they can rightly claim that they did all the right things, etc.

How do Crew pose a threat to each other???

We are treated the same as everyone else in terms of security I've had many things taken off me.

surly though they could start relaxing things for both pax and crew and everyone else that has to go through security

Sorry, but i have absolutely no understanding for all this security bull:mad: for us crews. We've been through hundreds of security background checks before we get an airport or company id. So what's the point of taking my shoes off, looking at my socks (favourite in BFS :ugh: ), and even my plastic pen, taking my toothpaste and a bottle of water when ten minutes later i'm in command of a fully fuelled widebody ? Where's all the big unions in europe...everybody accepts this ? Hard to understand. My greatest respect to the guy in norway who stopped flying at all because he's so sick of all that. I sometimes feel the same.....:D

Now that you mention it, that's one of the areas where they've also got blinkers on. I did a UK security check which was absolutley worthless because they only checked UK records and I've never, ever lived in the UK!
Attention to detail whilst losing the big picture is just stupid.
Aslo, to HZ123, when I said 'fear and stupidity' , I didn't mean the security people, I meant the forces driving the whole security culture. It's short sighted, it's narrow minded and it's going to take us all somewhere we'd all rather not be at the end of the day.
At least I'd rather not be there. You can go where you'd like! Oh wait, you won't be able to..

For all aircrew in Europe.

One Criminal records check, Europe wide if that is where you are to be employed, remember JAA.

One Universally recognised standard airside pass based on records check, verified by current employer, to be renewed yearly with medical and valid Europe wide.

One Fingerprint/and or Iris scan, encoded onto pass, absolutley unique!

Once this is in place a visit to security should take no more than 10 secs as they will know exactly who we are and should remove the need for these ridiculous rules.

The cost I can see would be a factor but surely if safety and prevention of terrorism is the DofTs No. 1 concern this should be no object and alot cheaper than the wages paid to these wankers that revel in enforcing bull**** rules with no lateral thought.

This I'm sure would result in a far safer airside environment and the software/hardware to do it is available.

Hands up how many times a "security officer" has taken your water off you but had no clue where your airside pass and/or licence is/was from or issued......Ludicrous :*

FlyingBeetle, don't mix the unions up in this. Instead write to your freundin Angela in Berlin.

Why not...? Arent't the unions i.e. ECA are our representative ? This is an European issue. So why not turn to them and ask for some action.
(..and i will not contact the ugly lady in Berlin...:uhoh: )
