Freighter Firms - general info

Im after some general info on the main freighter firms.

Someone mentioned they're away for 3 weeks at a time, are they all like that or do some do short haul? Is the paysimilar to flying passengers and
are the requirements the same as for new FO's on airlines?

Any info would be helpful in my exploration of the aviation job market!!

The following is based on Air Contractors who I work for. The requirements are the same as passenger airlines, with regards to hours, time on type, etc. Air Contractors have been taking a mix of pilots with hours on Type and pilots with min flying hours but a self funded TR from Sky Blue looking for their first job.
Most cargo companies have pilots who live far and wide. You rarely fly fom one base so most live where they want to and commercial to the airport they are working from. The company pays for travel expenses, ie hire cars and flights.
Most cargo is at night and involves being away from home for up to 12 days at a time. Then a week off with a week contactable at the end of the month. The chances of being called out increase significantly with pilots leaving the company and sickness.
Salaries are on par with pax operators but the amount you can earn from per diem's are higher due to being paid an hourly rate for the whole time you are away from home
hope this helps :ok:
