Cargolion TV programme, a few years back

all

i remember seeing a program on discovery wings a few years back about cargolion (or something to do with them) anybody know where i can get hold of a copy?

Flightmech 18th Feb 2007 12:14

I remember the series, i think it was called "Skytruckers" or something to that effect? If it's the same series they showed a G/A into Tblisis due to a C-5 on the runway (even though they had landing clearance!) and a landing into an airfield at the end of a fjord in Greenland. Some good old charter flying in the the DC-8. Also remember the old F/E telling a story in the hotel about a request for 4 tonnnes of elephent straw not to included on the W/B by the shipper "because they eat it in flight"

It was a good series. Hopefully the name will assist you in getting a copy

Cheers

There was a 1 hour program on German news channel NTV last month about the VW Paris Dakar rally cars. There was a section on airfreighting the cars to DXB on a 747 for testing in the sandpit.
Wouldn't mind getting a copy of that if anyone can help. There's a few faces on there I need some bribery material on.....:ok:

To all those asking about the Cargolion documentary, I recorded this 1 hour prog called SkyTruckers from Discovery Channel onto VHS on April 10, 1999.

The best news is I FOUND THE TAPE!!!

Not quite sure though about how to send out copies, and erm, how many of you want one?
Leave it with me.

Memorable quote from the programme:

Bertram Pohl (Cargolion president)...
"Its easy to make a small fortune from air freight. You start with a big one!"

CR2 12th Dec 2007 17:15

Please do your requests & thank you's via pm/email.

Ant 12th Dec 2007 21:21

Still working on getting the transfer from VHS to DVD, turning out to be a pain. If anyone is able to do this easily and quickly can they PM me and I will send the tape on. Once done, I can make duplicate DVDs here.
The tape is in PAL format (UK TV standard) by the way.
Any takers?

Thinking about it, a DVD of the programme could make a reasonable Chrissy pressie don't you think? :ok:

Phileas Fogg 15th Dec 2007 07:51

Can't one connect a VCR to a DVD recorder by means of a scart cable, I used to video to video by that method.

If you might manage to get it onto a PC as a JPEG file or similar then I know of a download 'Video Maker' whereas you can burn it onto DVD's if you have a DVD writer.

Ant 16th Dec 2007 14:40

Success!
Thanks due entirely to a tip from an interested party (you know who you are:ok:,) the programme 'Skytruckers' has now been transferred to DVD.
Given that I don't have a video capture card, nor one of those handy-dandy machines that records analogue video & TV straight to DVD, I had to contrive to get the signal electronically through a digital video camera down through firewire onto PC, thence to my DVD burner. I had tried shooting a TV screen using the camera in its conventional mode but this produced unacceptable patterning!
The whole exercise nonetheless gave me a chance to re watch this really great documentary.

There have been some requests from quite far afield, though I am confident that even NTSC (the American TV standard) can be catered for.

In keeping with the Mod's request, anyone wishing to receive a copy should only ask via PM to give me their postal address.

Cargolion Loadmaster

As an ex Cargolion freelancer i remember this photograph being on the wall in the LUX ops office for quite some time. It would be good to get in touch with some of the ex Ops/Loadmasters.:)

alapt 28th Dec 2007 04:10

Hello to all ex employees of Cargo Lion.
I have kept in touch with many of them. There is one 'Hard Core' group left in Lux. The rest have been dispersed in the wind to better or worst companies.........:\
T'was a great company to work for......Cheers

Sky truckers still available?

Hi,
I would really like to have a copy of the SkyTruckers episode. I live in Luxembourg and know some of those people involved in the film (now retired). So it would make a nice present for them.
I will cover whatever costs there may be in the duplication.
Please let me know,
Peter

Ant 12th Oct 2011 20:47

Hi,

That should be possible. Leave it with me and I'll get back to you.

Bozzo 14th Oct 2011 22:37

Does anyone know where the ex Cargolion crew are and what they are doing now?

Ant 16th Oct 2011 12:03

Folks,

I'm finally getting round to running off more copies of "Skytruckers" and seems there's quite an interest. If there's anyone else wanting a copy please say so now so I know how many disks to buy!

A small point to note in order to answer a question: I'm NOT doing this commercially, I'll only ask for a donation from you upon safe receipt of your copy to cover costs etc.
That way, I'm not profiting from a copyrighted programme.

Please send your name & address to

[email protected]

if you want a copy.

Kasun Rajapaksha 8th Dec 2022 13:41

Is it possible for me to get a copy, I remember I watched this when I was a teen & I converted my only plastic aircraft model to cargo by cutting off a door & created LD3 containers in 1:200 using cardboard & after about 20 years, I still have this toy with me. Now I'm playing with my kids recalling the memory of this documentary.

Also, would love to see how the guys in the documentary are doing
