ACL - whats happening

Hearing all sorts of rumours - expansion, closing bases, morale, people leaving etc etc.

Would anyone in the 'know' care to expand?

Cheers.

Don't know were your getting this from! They propably will need a large recruitment drive over the next 12 months to cope with futher expansion and have already asked Oxford Aviation to help get additional rated F/O's.

Apart from that lots of time off and Great pay. (Frieght is still the secret of aviation!!)

Thanks for the comments. Re:

How much truth is there in that statement? Do Oxford aviation really have the remit to do this? I though there were only 1 or 2 ATR rated schools in the UK, unless they have been asked to find other type rated people.

What is the current situation like at ACL?

some people have been leaving because there is so much recruitment by the jet operators in the uk and europe. the guys based in europe have been working hard, 3weeks on and one week off over the summer but morale overall has been alright whenever i have been out there.
the bournemouth base is looking like it might be closed due to the loss of a couple of its contracts, especially the mail run to liverpool.

Out of interest, what/where are the guys based in Europe and how hard is working hard? 3 weeks working non stop seems pretty heavy.

Hardcase - that's funny, I was told that it was actually 2 weeks on (with week-ends off), 1 week "contactable" (being contacted quite rarely) and 1 week off.

Is the possible closure of the BOH base the reason for the ad in Flight for 2 ATR 42s and 1 ATR 72 offered for lease/long-term contracts?

Cheers

with ACL, you can be based wherever you want, Germany, Holland, Spain, France, UK; its usually fly commercial out to Prague, Warsaw, Milan, or wherever on a Sunday and from Monday you do 4 night's then off for the weekend and then you do the same the following week. On your w/end off you can stay in the hotel, fly your missus down or fly home, its up to you.

The third week of the month you are contactable (standby) and off the last week of the month...lately people have been called on their contactable week, hence the working hard bit.

safe flying

yes ACL have a spare ATR or 2 they are trying to lease, but this is part of what the company do, we lease aircraft and it looks like the BOH base ATR's will be leased.
pilots are being called recently on contactable with training/leavers but the new arrivals training at the moment should increase the pilots online. The company reckon with the new F/O's coming online, there will be a 1 in 3 chance of being called on contactable, which is the way it used to be.
ACL is a great company to work for and the ATR is a nice aircraft to fly, especially for your first job
