LD3 Containers

Would anyone be kind enough to tell me how much weight a LD3 and LD2 container can hold?

Many thanks and cheers,

HR

Depends what you want to put in it. a single smallish piece but heavy. Volume it out with light boxes of pharms. Maybe use it for secure cargo like gold or currency alone. anything from 200kg to about 2500kg.

The short answer is that it depends on what kind of aircraft you want to put it in. Its usually the floor limits of an aircraft type that determines what can be carried.

Published max. gross weight for a 'standard' LD2/LD3, as published in the IATA ULD Technical Manual, is 1588kg/3500lbs. This could be further restricted, as CR2 says, by individual aircraft positions.

Average tare weight is +/-100kgs depending on manufacturer, forkliftable pockets etc. so max loadable weight would be +/- 1490kgs

To elaborate further on CR/RTs posts, and feeling a tad pedantic today, an example of the weight limit imposed by floor strength (or lack of same) could be our A300s which, in the rear lower-deck, allows for a maximum weight of either 1588 (R1L/R) or 1285 kg (R2-4L/R).

Generally speaking, ULDs will accept a higher weight than the aircraft and hence the ULD limit could, in most cases, be described as "theoretical" - ish. Now try to explain that to your commercial department :D

I'll get my coat.
