Atlas Air
Are here some guys around flying for Atlas?
I recently talked to a B744 F/O and it sounded very nice to work for the company. At the moment the situation seems to be quite good compared to last year due to the emirates contract. But how is the outlook after the 5 years? And how is the hiring situation and what are the requirements? Comments appreciated. MSA |
Don't know - but I hear that Atlas is returning up to 20 aircraft back to GECAS.
|
Good compared with last year? I thought they are in Chapter11!
|
They've been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy since late January. Current plan is to reduce the combined Polar/Atlas fleet by about 10 airplanes, from 51 to 41. All sorts of info at www.atlasreorg.com

Atlas recall of around 40 folks announced this morning. Pulling back from Stanstead for some -400 folks also announced. Lots of flying.

MERGER
What's the buzz? Are the seniority lists going to be merged at Polar and Atlas?
|
Someday, it will happen, if both survive. Each pilot group swears the other is the cause of the problems and should be shut down or sold. It will be an UGLY merger.
There is a grievence filed and it's in the arbitrator hands as we speak. His final decision could have more to do with the survival of Polar than anything else out there for the time being. It's interesting. If the Polar crews win this grievance, it could be the end for them. Bottom line, neither pilot group is in a hurry to merge until they feel better about the other groups survival. Neither group wants to be the one with their guys being furloughed when the other is shut down. |
Good luck with a merger, or surviving as separate companies.

Atlas
The problems with Atlas were nothing to do with the pilots or other operating personnel. The problem was incompetent middle management who became incompetent upper management when Chaodhury died.

Ain't it great to see all the "ALPO" brothers working together as good union brothers do?
|
Yes Indeed, conflict of interest. ALPO is so very good at promising everything to everyone as they protect their true interests while adding to the stockpile of cannon fodder. Hope that the seat belts at Astar are securely fastened.
On the other hand Ironbutt, if you'd skipped the first day of SD-360 ground school for an interview with Delta instead of New York Air you'd perhaps be viewing this ALPO thing from a slightly different perspective. |
BQ
Reading those BQ motions leads you to believe that Polar could survive on its own. If it is sold off.
|
BK
Sorry. BK motions.
|
Latest news is everything is going well in BK and planning to add up too 4 (2 -200's and 2 -400's) aircraft in the very near future. Plans are in motion to hire as well. Not sure if it will be for the junior base of Stanstead.
