747-400F VS 777F (wet, damp or dry lease)

For a 2 airplane startup cargo airline I would like to get some rough figures for leasing wet damp or dry either a 747-400F or 777F.

And if I took a dry lease how much would the maintanence and insurance be per year roughly?

Last figures I had for a 744F wet lease were about 10 years ago, and $7000-9000/hour. Depending on model (400F, 400BCF, or other conversion), rates may be a bit less these days.

Are there any 777Fs out there to be had?...dry or wet lease or owned by your outfit.

Cost-per-tonne-mile is the key number here...I haven't done that kind of research but I'm sure other members here have that kind of data.

Airframe selection is also about the shape and size of cargo . . . which may not fit through ordinary side loading doors.

When comparing the 777 and 744 you also need to consider length of legs. EK does fine DXB/FRA/DXB and DXB/HKG/DXB, but have to start bumping cargo to do the PVG to DXB leg, it's a little long.

ACMI for 747-400F around US$6100, converted 747-400F (no nose door) around $5300.
I don't think you'll find any 777F available.

Exactly.
As far as I am aware the only ACMI operator of the 777F is Southern Air Inc., and theirs are all tied up with DHL.
Unless things have changed recently.

@CaptainJim, were you able to secure the 2 744's you needed? If so, I'd love to chat with you as I'm looking for a 744.

@Charlie_Fox, can you direct me on where you found your data on the ACMI lease range?

Thanks gents!

What's that old saying about making a small fortune in aviation...

Start with a large one.

There are a lot of 744/744F sitting in the desert these days, so that should tell you one of many things.

Jade cargo...ACG...World Airways...Evergreen...Southern(coming furloughs)

GOOD LUCK!!

Has the definition of "damp" lease changed ? I thought it referred to a Wet lease where for pax aircraft no FA's were provided as in the case where the lessee wanted to use their own back end personnel . This would obviously not apply to a freighter.
