African International DC8's

Anyone heard anything more about the AIA DC8's? One was standing in CPT and one in JNB.

The one in CPT underwent a D-Check and livery stripped so must have been bought by someone.

Does anybody know if Wayne Sprauve is connected with AIA and if so, what is his role? I had an email from him stating that he owns AIA and that he was looking for 738s to support his new airline in a buildup to the World cup. After some questions to see who he was, his sights were lowered to a 733 and it went pear shaped after that. All I could find out was that he is a commodoties broker for some other company, unrelated to aviation.

Thanks

As said above, 2 x aircraft sold to Stars Away, a small Cape Town based cargo operator. One reportedly in C-Check at facility in Cape Town, other has a main spar problem and unsure future.

Ex AIA 8's

Greetings chaps. On Dec 9th I left CPT in ZS-OSI after her comprehensive C12 check. We conducted the maintenance acceptance flight up at Mafekeng. The aeroplane was almost faultless and flew beautifully. Our session was cut short due to weather and we completed it on 11 Dec with approaches and circuits at Lanseria. (We had approval to do our IF renewals and recurrency in the aeroplane). The aeroplane is in Josie and we all look forward to the CAA reopening to get our "gerriatric jet" operational.
Compliments of the Season

ZS-OSI was always the best of the bunch at AIA. That aircraft sure did some miles flying between Australia and Cape Town.

It must be OZV that has a spar problem as POL went whilst I was there.

Hope all the guys ex AIA had a good Christmas and New Year

Yup. got pic's in new paint scheme, just not smart enuff to load them!

D862, Thanks, all quiet for Xmas, hope the New Year brings many more miles for OSI. Myself, FO, FE 2 GE and LM are all ex AIA with several more lined up ready to join when we need more crew. ZV is in the hangar being stripped, they will assess the situation before deciding on the repairs required. I think use her for spares and buy an 8 elsewhere, but hey, I am just the driver!
Cheers

Yes, but the ex-French AF -72 are combis, thus they have a very low volumetric payload capacity. I guess that's the reason why ATI is trying to sell them ?

Yambat, good to hear. Had many a great flight on the 62's and Stocks and Key ran a tight outfit.

Cracked wing spar, USD 250K and 8-months waiting, that is going to hurt somewhat

Any idea when Stars Away will start their operation? Horses and more Horses coming out of my ears.

Which one?

Diesel862, yip, wasn't one bought by Kikki Le-Mer (I think that is the way the spelling goes)? Was it POL?

See the -54's are still sitting in Jozie, Denel Aviation side.

DC-8-72

ATI is not getting rid of those 72's because of lack of volume. Mainly due to new management, engine leases, checks due and contracts that have vanished. Cheers. If anybody needs an experienced DC-8 captain please let me know. Many thanks.

Hi, we are awaiting the final paperwork from CAA, everything submitted.
Aeroplane is good to go, snags from C check all sorted, crew with shiny new IR and medicals and all the other lovely paperwork like DG and CRM and tech refreshers etc, sit and wait. Done loads of horse flights at AIA, very enjoyable. Iris Air DC8-62 in CPT today with horses.
Yup, POL went to Kiki in DRC
