Barley's Scabs

Blue Eagle:

Putting the legals aside a SCAB is still a SCAB.

Keep the blue side up.

Bengi,

What is your definition of a Scab? WRT the situation at Cathay, (which I'm well aware of) how does this apply?

It would be interesting to hear the differences between yourself and those who use the term in respect to 1989.

Not intended as a sh#t stir, just wanting opinions on the Definition.

BlueEagle 11th July 2002 12:38

Just so long as you don't go posting references to, details of or links to any lists, Bengi - you opinion is entirely your own affair!:)

FYI the ONLY person EVER to refer to post October 9, 2001 hires as "scabs" is our DFO himself. The AOA and IFALPA have always referred to same as "replacement workers "

Define a replacement worker? C'est un morceau de gateau.

Bengi, I actually agree with you; as you so reasonably postured there are no scabs at CX, even the ASL guys are ok now, all the new people are just replacement workers for the places made vacant by the people who took the jobs of the 49ers. Quack.

ironbutt57 11th July 2002 14:11

Yup....a scab is a scab.....one who takes another's job......all command opportunities caused by the '49ers were filled by scabs.......oh no you say!!!

The Fan Man 11th July 2002 23:19

Jokers!!!

Let me play my record one more time……….

The whole and sole reason why the ban isn’t working and will not work. CX’s own drivers take upgrades move on and all is well. New hires come in and they are labelled “scabs” , what a joke!!!

If it’s good enough for them , it’s good enough for those of you who need the job badly enough , so join!

There are only 49 “scabs” and they all got a pat on the back and no one bothers them, so new hires don’t hold back join the party , besides you’re not taking a job of a 49’er they’ve already been filled by their mates, the job you are taking is through aircraft acquisition and expansion.

Wake up and smell the coffee!!

Yep,

The sad fact is thatthere are alot of desperate people out here looking for jobs and the really sad fact is that management are aware of it and will exploit it to there own advantage.

Sad...........but true.

When will managements around the world realise that happy staff that know their interests are looked after will be more productive, more responsive and cost companies millions less than disgruntled staff that are being effectively threatened.

shortly 15th July 2002 03:27

Scooter you are quite correct. The sad fact is that many large companies still follow the old and tired US management philosophies of divide and conquer the workforce, rule by intimidation. But the septics have seen the light and the wheel is turning. The cost of training new employees and the loss of productivity caused by unhappy employees are now key issues in the strategic plans of enlightened companies. CX will get to that point again without doubt. Very sad for the 49ers and very sad for union militants but great for the employees in general
