Morale Suppression at Work?
Latest NTC about luggage charges at the Headland: HKD1250 per month, which apparently is 'below market rates'. Yes Mrs GMA, we do not stay at the Headland Hotel out of choice. Leaving luggage there is an attempt to create some sort of home from home. Charging your employees this sort of rate when all they are trying to do is to conduct a nomadic lifestyle in the course of their Company duties. Appears a bit extreme to me, this has been done as a part of another agenda!!
|
...as I said on another thread: Every time they open their mouths (or put out another NTC), they succeed in pissing me off just that little bit more. CC can't come soon enough for this lot.
|
She's gotta be losing it!
So instead of leaving a small bag at the hotel, guys are now going to avoid the charge by checking in a large suitcase each time!! I can't wait to check in my suitcase for a TPE return! How many based? 500? x 15 sectors per month = 7500 sector/suitcases x 15kg = 112,500 kg extra carried = 22 tonnes of fuel. Well done, Madam! |
I'm in awe at how blind these people really are. A bigger issue is the fact that she would announce this new 'policy' during the supposed negotiation period. Just add this to the list of all the other arbitrary changes over the past year (A days, staff travel, etc) during our GFBP. It's time. CC. Let's roll.
|
It's time.
I agree.
But you know what? This new charge is not in my COS. |
Considering the number of days we sometimes have to stay in the Headland on an extended pattern, it's obvious that we have to have the ability to store luggage. Once again, evidence of poor long term planning. Who's surprised.... :ugh:
|
it will be a good look seeing crew sporting 80 litre back packs through the terminal, explaining that they have to do it as the company charges them $1250 if they want to bring a bag to work. Spinning a story can work both ways... A little sign on the back of the back pack perhaps?
|
There is only one thing I can say and it's
PATHETIC |
Give them the bag to check. Refuse to pay.
|
Or we could just walk around hello kitty city wearing their uniform pants and white shirts because we can't fit any more cloths in out bags.
Chuck em in the dry cleaner after we finish the layover.....that solves the storage problem. Wear out their crap company provided uniform AND no need to pack plain cloths. WIN WIN |
Or.....
We could throw our plain cloths undies socks etc into dry cleaning and pick me up on return, still cheaper than paying $1250 month to store the bag..... Mmmmmm |
It's almost as if they were begging us to go into CC.
No one that gets paid that much is that stupid? There's something wrong here. Are they losing the plot, or am I? |
This is a swire hotel, what did we really expect?
A charming and very moderate, but now deceased Captain used to say. "Don't worry lad, just get it back in spades" Sage advice I would have thought, do with it as you will, but don't let the B*stards get you down. |
Stepping over 200 bucks to pick up a nickel....again.
More work in that we'll now have to amend our own TA proposal by an extra percent to allow for these costs. No successful entity eats costs--they pass it along to their 'consumer.' It does show the nature of who we are dealing with. An effective solution would simply be to limit everyone to one bag. But I guess asserting power (that really isn't there) is more important than making money. Pity. The increase in fuel burn alone will cost more than simply leaving things be. Petty stuff like this is beyond childish -- even 5th graders know better than behaving like this. Don't worry too much...we haven't even heard the howl from the girls yet and they are the ones who face to face with the pax. Talk about smacking a hornet's nest. |
"below the market rate".......?? Is there a market for an in-house hotel storing residents bags? I thought not..........
|
staff car park is $900 per month-would be cheaper to buy a car between us and leave it there!
|
A pilot walks up to Headland reception and says, "I'd like a room for a month and 96 key cards please"
Duty front desk person goes "Is this a joke?" Pilot says no, "No, the only joke is this cxheadland instigated policy, here's $24,000 of my finest hk dollars" He continued "The other 95 all pay me $250/month, and because of time in/out of hong kong, there'll only be about 50 cases at any one time in the room. Make it on the 4th floor my man and close to the lifts. Chip chop! " Beats paying 'market rates!' - as if!! |
Alternatively, you should all keep your expense to the minimum, and by having to check your 30 kg bag in on every flight, it wouldn't be long before a beamish works out the system wide fuel loss and fixes the storage.
|
Yes quick back of the fag packet calculations but for me
20kg's extra weight ( being conservative ) each flight x 70 flights ( long haul year ) = 1.4 tonnes extra @ 300 kg/tonne = 420 kg's extra burn = 535 LTS of JetA1 = about $350 USD ( source Platts Jet fuel price monitor @65 c litre ) x 3,000 ( Approx based Pilots and cabin crew ) = $1,043,250 USD So, that's just based on an Airbus correction of about 300kg/tonne and only 70 flights per year..... We are talking a lot of money cost to Cathay in the millions of USD Do they ever think before opening their mouths?? |
HKD 1250/month x 3,000 based pilots and flight attendants x 12 months = US$5,769,230 per year.
Maybe they DID think. |
