What sort of reception to expect at CX?
Some guys from Downunder have given notice and are off to Adelaide before heading up to Hong Kong. The rest of us who have been sitting on our hands (some having said "no" to a job) are wondering exactly what sort of reception these guys are going to get. I must admit I am not right up with the play but how long are the rest of us going to have to hang out for?:confused:

It's not too bad for now. Plenty of things to keep busy with. I have had a few phone calls in the wee hours, more so recently. I guess things are heating up a little. Maybe it's time to see if the management is serious about not tolerating this sort of thing.

I would be very careful who you report intimidation to as if you cannot take criticism on the chin under these circumstances then how will you go if you fail your first line check because you were not up to speed?
Would you call a manager and cry into the phone that the checky was a union guy who set himself the goal of holding you down for more training? Be very careful because not all of the trainers are in the union and so if you go running to the nearest manager complaining that you failed a checkride based on the premace that it was union intimidation when it actually might have been your own stupid fault, then you are left in a very sticky situation for the rest of your career aren't you. Tell me how you would feel dobbing in the wrong guy who wasn't union that you so mistakenly thought was? I would be looking over my back for ever after such a boo boo as that..... The best advice i can give you is to keep your head down and don't think you are doing any favours by dobbing people in. What happens on the day the captain is really pissed off at something completely different but your guilt makes you think he is mad at you? Just keep your head down and your mouth shut and you will be around for many years to come! |
i have heard that some of the joiners have received calls and emails. intimidation like this is unacceptable. all grievences, tactics and plans should be controlled by the general committee (i doubt this is part of their plan)
as detailed...running to management will not do you any favours; my only caveat would be if your wife/family were assaulted. isn't it sad that i should even have to write that down! advice: do your job, work hard and keep your head down. the right wing of the union will know you.... take time and get to know them (its not hard) then avoid them. while very few of us are company fans (they still feed us)... the majority also know that the new joiners are not to blame in this dispute. your only concern is how long can you afford to wait? i have peers who have been treading water for 10 months (on aoa advice, being told 'just 3 more months')... their slots are now full until feb 2003. (another 8 months wait at least). i only hope the right wing of the union sends them a christmas card saying thanks........ but i doubt it. |
Keeping your head down is sound advice.
With respect to middle of the night phone calls....if they become a problem go to the phone company and the police. ALL phone calls can be traced. If you are ever assaulted lay a complaint with the Police. Always do your homework on your Checker. Asking around you can find out their hot topics. Don't over study the Checker though..he might be changed. Don't sweat the Check Ride. Talk is Talk (the AOA are nothing but). When it comes to the Walk, the Checkers aren't dumb enough to risk all on an unfair assesment. Work hard, keep quiet, pass the Check because know your stuff. |
