So you have Bloomberg saying Qatar is going to order 30, and Reuters saying Qatar is not interested at all in them at all.

Al Baker has a habit of blowing his head gasket, though. He probably was very interested, and some Boeing big cheese said it wouldn't go round the world twice at MZFW on 22t of fuel, so he went ape!!!! and called the media.

'Hot air' doesn't even come close with that guy.

I usually don't walk into a car showroom expressing my love for purchasing a specific model, so I can understand Qatar's stance.

So here's a question...

With $87 billion in pending orders (guessing about 250-300 units) for the 777X, does it become difficult to get delivery slots before 2025 or so?

If so, what does this mean for the 747-8I, A380, and other less desirable aircraft which are available now? Is there a lease market for these aircraft while everyone waits for the 777X?

Having seen your posts on the other thread this is the most pragmatic one. CX is leaving pax and cargo (and pax bags) behind on the JNB -HKG (LHR is not the only service) due to cut cost engineering on the rollers. Trying to put PW's on all services without success. 744 RR and 777ER seem both to be limited to about 24C whilst others can take more, perhaps we need 748i's?!!!:confused:

Surely more likely that lack of delivery slots for B777X until 2025 means more demand for B777-300ER/ A350 leases until then. Why add another aircraft type?

Good point. I think you are correct. The exceptions will be if an airline needs the seats of a 777-9 or 744. In those cases, a larger aircraft on lease might be considered. Many airlines only have one flight a day to certain destinations. For some of those, a 77W or A351 might not be deemed sufficient.
