From REX to CX
 

Hi guys,

I am finishing my degree this year in Oz. Have previously applied for the CX cadet pilot programme but never get called (guess that's becuase I wasn't major in physics?). I am planning to do the REX cadet pilot programme which I am paying AUD25000 up front and will be doing a 32-week long training and then will be bonded for 7 years on Saab 34 at REX.

REX's programme seems to be a good deal considering an employment offer once I finish the cadet programme (compare to finishing a master degree with no employment guaranteed. However, Hong Kong is my dream and the tax is fantastic. Just wondering if it would still be ok to apply for the second officer position at CX with 7 years experience on Saab and I would probably be around 30 by then.

I'm a newbie in piloting. woud be nice to hear from you guys.

7 years from now it's better you try the other carrier here in HK.

Really, you just have to take what comes along first. You have no idea where it will go!! 7 years is such a long time. Who knows what the Cadet scheme will be like in CX in 7 years from now? Take what you can now. Experience counts.

So just to be clear. You are paying this REX company 25000 AUD, to do a cadetship, and I assume earn all of your flying licenses, and then you are flying a 340 and bonded for 7 YEARS!!?? ON A SAAB??!! :yuk: Best of luck my good man, but after 7 years on a Saab, I wouldn't be aiming for the SO stream here at CX. Aim a little higher.

I think that you are onto a winner!

Just leave out the Saab bit on you application to CX. No one at HR will no the difference between a Saab, a Cessna , a Convair or an Airbus.

A 340 is a 340 isn't it? ;)

Well considering recently a guy from REX resigned from CX as an S/O and returned to his old job, I think you've got it backwards.
