Any truth to the rumour that CX housing pay and benefits for new joiners is so low that many new SO's are living in BKK because it is the only place they can afford to live?

If true, seems to be an interesting policy. Provide your staff so little they can't even afford to live in the place they are employed.

Makes me also wonder, who are the people accepting these packages? Does it reflect on the whole standard of the new CX recuit? I have no idea. All I know is, when many years ago, I went ( unsuccessfully) through the CX interview process, if it was suggested that the pay on offer would not let you live comfortably with your family in Hong Kong, most applicants would not have bothered to apply.

I am deeply touched my company has done a great job! I beg a differ to anyone else who says otherwise. No, our company will definitely not alter any images and do fake marketing.. it is not true!

The rumor about all the housing has gone to cardboard cut-outs is totally false!

The question is not so much why they chose to sign, but how long they'll stick with it.

By the time they've filled a few P2 logbook pages and the leash is cut, they'll have realized they can't afford to have a wife and kids. (Yeah, I know, who can...)

Live in a shoebox, commute, or quit.
Or get a base. Oh wait...

Some are commuting because you get more space and a better lifestyle. For the little older guys with families or starting a family, HK and the current package does not provide the equal lifestyle the expats may be accustomed to at home- especially those with previous life/work experience. Be that as it may, it's a great opportunity to bite the bullet for a while, make the most of living overseas for a few years, gain some hours on a wide-body, and before you know it, 5 years are up and you're marketable with some hours on a P1 rating. The guys and girls may have a few more choices then. Under the current circumstances, one needs to consider the alternatives in this industry which aren't vast, given the relatively low experience. It's a great stepping stone, and if you can commute in the process, all the better!

Five Green, 10/10. Probably the post of the year :ok: The Americans started to learn finally after the crash of the Dash and loss of 50 lives. What will it take at CX? Couple of hundred in one hit? Remember with Colgan you had fatigued pilots, operational pressures, poor rostering, flight crew gradients and a company that prioritised money above lives and safety. Sounds like a familiar story to me.....

With responsibility comes accountability.

I googled Colgan.....very interesting read. Appears to have been a real shambles and, sadly, emblematic of where the industry is today.

The cost cutting actions over the past twenty years have created some systemic problems within the industry......with no end in sight. Cutting corners to reduce pilot and training costs (for example, multi crew license as a laughable means by which to hire even less experienced pilots) have led us to a point where the public has begun to wonder if the pilots can even fly the planes!

It would appear that managers view pilots and fuel as the same commodities....squeeze, squeeze, squeeze.
