CX hiring soon

Sounds like Cathay will be hiring soon. Myself along with a few others, who were accepted last year, received calls in the last few days. They wanted to know if we were still interested, and if we were prepared to accept a job under the ban. While I strongly disagree with the ban, I said no. I hope I don't live to regret it.

Were these calls you got for SO positons or FO.

I have also had a message left to call CX back, I suppose this is what they will be asking as I have been in the holding pool for 6 months now. Probably still say yes as the ban won@t last forever

Did they give you any indication of which a/c type etc etc

cheers

To join or not to join.

For the Ban, not for the ban, join under the ban, not to join under the ban. To become a so-called SCAB or not. Tough call.

Do some research. Have any of the Ansett SCABS found work? Are you sure you will be at Cathay forever? Will you or your wife to be, be happy in Hong Kong. If not and you have the so-called title, will you be able to find work elsewhere. You probably would, but will it be the job that you want.

Will the current CX management be around in five years to protect you? Who will be the DFO in 5-10 years? Will he like the SCAB title? Will he protect you from the militants?

Where do you what to be in the future? What do you want in the future?

Heard some of the 89er's are now running places like Virgin Blue. They are all over the world, but not everywhere.

Some people have hard feelings on the subject. Probably because they have been SCABED on.

Like I said, tough call.

Just educate yourself first before you make a decision. Don't let one company's management talk you into something all warm and fuzzy.
It could be the point of no return. Every Pilot should give himself/herself options after the PNR.
Be informed and make informed decisions.

Good Luck.

PS.
Just wondering if John Cooper, Russell Allen or any of their associates are posting here? If you are, have a great day.

i'm accepting.

the 49's are finished all their friends took their commands and left us at the coal face of a ridiculous ban brought about by self serving senior pilots who don't give a stuff about anyone but themselves. the International Labour Organisation is a joke, as already pointed out a couple of times here by ex 89's from Oz.

don't wreck your careers lads, we are and will not be scabs it's the chaps that accepterd the 49's commands that are the true scabs around here.

see you all on course and we'll tuck into a couple of cold lagers when it's all over!!!

Hey guys lets face it. A ban is a ban. Whether you will be considered a SCAB is relative to each individual. These bans are implemented in hopes for a better, equal, prosperous, unified future at todays sacrafice. Accepting a interview or a job post during a ban does not help anyone out present or future.

shaablamm 20th April 2002 23:06

I know one thing for sure, when I get an interview and call up I will accept, without question. The industry is a different ball game these days, whether thats good or bad it's still changed.

Hot off the press. All parked aircraft to be reactivated as soon as
possible and an order placed for 6 new aircraft. Delivery from late next year - 3 x A330 and 3 x B777-300.

ronnie123 26th April 2002 05:49

13 daily flts to LAX and SFO, direct flt to DXB.
I guess loads are picking up real fast.:p

What I cannot understand is why you would take a job where the other three people in the Flight Deck hate you and all that entails.

In addition, the cabin crew would despise you as well. CX Cabin Crew are only just behind the Flight Crew in their hatred for management and are well aware of this issue. Indeed, quite a few are married to Pilots at CX (bring your own food <G>).

Out of work - Hong Kong is almost a village in expatriate terms and to live in it with the feelings of hatred that will exist, I don't know why you would do it. Despite the press, most of the people in Hong Kong are well aware of the situation at CX and the flack will also come from those outside the airline.

You can believe the management (small m) who post on this board, you might even believe the press, you might think that flying (after a few years of radio operation) a big jet will make up for it, but I think the reality will be stark. I couldn't do it.

Snake Hips 26th April 2002 09:06

"Bring our own food" ...for God's sake grow up!

Following your line, does that mean the guys that accepted
command upgrades, at the expense of the 49'ers??, are 'hated'
also?

Of course anyone who joined after ? date are probably also 'hated'?

Cabin crew 'hatred' of management is apparently rife.

A recurrent theme here?

Personally I am delighted you couldn't bear to join. I would
be worried flying around with you at the helm. All that CRM stuff.

Terrific airline, fine product, some great people (I include aircrew) and a bright future. I even rather enjoy Hong Kong!
