Seems like most people have only horror stories but has any one had a good experience with a contractor in HK and have one they'd recommend.

I recommend you go to Yuen Long or Mongkok and get the stuff to do it yourself. Most things you do in a house are pretty simple, much more so than flying a plane, and you can be assured you will do the job to satisfy yourself. You will also save some major coin. All that is required is a bit of hard work!! :ok:
