Is there a 'retirement' date for these yet? Everyone else who runs these seems to be fallling by the wayside ! Know that there's B744Fs 'on order' but are these to supplement or replace?

Also (bit of an 'anorak' question), did they ever up-date the classic flightdeck like Martinair (CRT ADI & HSI) or Kalita and Evergreen (replacement engine instruments)?

I believe a -300 freighter has now gone to the desert, with more to follow over the next year or two.:{ I believe the engines are coming back to support the rest of the fleet.

Ummmm, we don't have any -300 frtr's and we never have. We did however have newly refurbished -300 passenger a/c which we sold off to Pakistan only for them to trash them in record time.
Of the -200 frtr's that we do have, none of the engine variants are used by any other a/c in our fleet - either passenger or freighter.

you're obviously still in denial or have been on leave for quite some time and didn't read the newspapers - CX is a major shareholder in KA, therefore 'we' do own -300's.

7 Classics at the beginning of 2008

HVY - Roller -scrapped already a glider on the Northeast end of Kemble in UK.

HME - GE powered a/c about to be scrapped rather than undergo a $20M 'C' check.

HIH - Roller due to be scrapped early 2009 (or earlier).

HMD/HMF - going late 2009

HVX/HVZ - going in 2010 or sooner.

Some C&T Officers have been retained on 'special' salaries. One office worker (Deputy CP) has been given an accelerated route to STC just to be there when the final 2 Aircraft constitute the 'Fleet'.

Nice work if you can get it.

We (as in CX/KA) also have (had) some 747-300 freighters, one of which has gone to the desert B-KAA. These a/c have operated under the CX flt code for sometime now.

Quite correct - sorry - just talking about CX. Not sure what's going to happen to the KA ones. They were higher spec (avionics) than CX Classics.

3 x -300F, 1 x -200F; one gone, next one end Aug 08, then Nov 08, Jan 09.
The -200F is a late-build, -400 wing + nose door.
All JT9Ds, upgraded to EFIS.
Nice aircraft to fly, plenty of power, loads of 'frame life left, just too thirsty.

The rumour about HVY gathers pace. This has been mentioned by engineering in DXB. The company concerned is Transaero (apparently a Russian outfit). They are also desperate to get their hands on HIH next year.

I think you'll find that the engines have gone to whoever it is in Russian and the airframe has been scrapped.

The outfit that bought HVY reportedly paid 6 million dollars or pounds, not sure, but sold each engine for 2 and the rest as scrap metal worth another 2. Not bad work if you can get it.:eek:

Sounds like yet another financial triumph for our 'world class' management team, although not quite on the scale of giving away the best -300s in the world to PIA, or getting caught over fuel price fixing or......... :cool:

The classics after line number 703 (first -400 line number 696) have the -400 wing to body fairing and the the -400 stabilizer (without the fuel tank fittings). HVX and KAD are two such A/C.

OK. Semantics check: The wing root fairing is not a "wing." Even without winglets, the obviously larger -400 wingspan includes an additional leading edge flap. [13 instead of 12].
