SO WHY DO WE INVITE APPLICANTS THAT ACTUALLY FAILED THE 1ST INTERVIEW FOR THE SECOND ROUND NOW???

Interesting to hear....

I'm not CX (..and likely never will be), but I've been observing.....

The 49ers situation as well as their antique training ideas & methods. I've had some discussions with a few of their older ex-military training chaps and felt at times like you talk to "topsy turvys". Very unimpressive.

It seems like their way is the "only way" and everybody else has no idea what they are doing. It seemed like CX is the only safe airline out there. How shortsighted...

Everybody who has worked for other reputable airlines -Lufthasa / BA / Virgin & many others, knows better. It did not seem the 20+ years veteran CX chaps have grasped this concept yet....

Please go and retire gracefully......Maybe CX will be a much better place to work for when some of the younger breed gets into the training department.

I can tell with 100% certainty, that -at this point in time- if CX was the last Airline on this planet I would change professions.

Luckily it is not - so I'll stay

The only way to change the Training Dept is from within. This has already happened at CX. Yes there are some within the company that are still flying the L1011 and believe that you train by checking. Those that fail do so because they are not good enough. However, CX will not be able to recruit sufficient high caliber candidates because the aviation industry is relatively small and the word is out the CX is no longer a career airline and do not treat their crews well.

Curious about your statement that CX invite 1st time failures to 2nd interviews. There are many people who failed the interview 1st time round and then about a year later get a second go. Is this what you talking about?

Seems they were sorted out in the 1st round but got invited to Honkers for round 2 nonetheless.
I recon as they watered down the COS to the '08 they decided to water down the requirements as well..

There may be about 500 Alitalia pilots looking for work soon. We can hire Alitalia captains for our Direct Entry Command positions for our freighter operations based in Milan. Not all the Direct Entry Command positions were filled by our Direct Entry Captains from Dragonair.

There is no shortage of pilots wanting to join The Cathay Pacific Group and as we have done in the past, offered pilots a second opportunity. There are many pilots with The Cathay Pacific Group that were afforded a second opportunity and subsequently became Captains and Senior Training Captains.

Signs of desperation, I think not.

We believe in market forces and the downward trend of conditions will continue. There is no reason for us to increase conditions where it is not needed and will give meager increases where it is.

That would be giving my bonus away.

If CX now hires the candidates that would not have been "good enough" yesteryear then the training dept will have to adapt.
Easier linechecks for all!!

Oh no sorry - I forgot - age 65 will make sure that the new recruits never get a command. I guess these guys are hired for 'career co-pilot'?

This is so stupid. There are lots of good/great pilots who did not get through the first interview. Its SUBJECTIVE.

Ladies and Gents,

You have now all received your 1 months bonus and if you are like most of us, it has already been spent.

Emotion aside, the real question to ponder is why CX would offer a one month bonus when the zany formula management uses, only offered 16.5 days. Let's remember that this is a revised formula, the original would have offered nothing. A big fat ZERO.

The sole reason, staff attrition. Not only in the pilot ranks, but in the cabin crew and in particular the local staff. After the 13th month was paid, there was a mass exodus of junior cabin crew. They could do just as well, probably even better, doing any other job in Hong Kong. The number I heard 500.

It is just a short term solution, a hail mary attempt to stem the tide. Sadly for them, it is much too little, way too late.

Anyone can see that CX is in real chaos now. It is solely crisis management, just to meet the everyday needs. Onshoring to the UK is supposed to be fully established, yet they haven't got the rules straightened out. Dragonair is a mess. The European freighter pay scales got a boost because they aren't competitive. Junior cabin crew are calling in sick in droves. We're short of sim instructors and the falling HKD is forcing staff to look elsewhere. You've got senior pilots being congratulated on doing unauthorized airshows, then being summarily dismissed. There are so many payscales and COS, nobody has a clue to their present terms. Imagine, being told post 55 was one COS, to have it quickly change back to another. How does one determine career progression when the terms constantly change, sometimes daily.

Anywhere else, you would call it a profound lack of leadership at the top and people would be fired. Expect some dramatic changes in the very near future at the top due to personal reasons. In all departments, not just the aircrew.

Enjoy the ride, it's going to get interesting!

My question is this. Why would anyone want to attend a second interview if they failed the first?

I certainly would not want to be part of a company if I wasn't wanted there. CX is not the be all to end all is it? Based in Hong Kong?! There is a world outside CX if you hadn't noticed.
