CX accommadation allowances

Goood morning all ,
I have been offered an interview with CX for DEFO in HK .
Could anyone shed some light on the cost of renting in HK , and if CX pay or offer any accommadation allowanace .
The bit of research I have done is slightly disturbing .
My estimations have shown that you can pay anything from £2500 to £5500
for a 2 bed apartment per month versus a nett salary of about £3800 .
Any info on this would be appreciated .

Check your details. There are no direct entry F/O's based in Hong Kong. It appears from the pay you quoted, that the job is a Europe based freight F/O.

that's a major detail that should be clarified :|

My rent is $8300 HKD a month. It is quite possible to get relatively inexpensive housing here. It will not be in Mid levels or some other very fashionable locale, but safe clean and nice.
DEFO jobs are all on bases anyways, so not your worry.

When they offer you a DEFO position, do they offer it with city/jet as well? Or, do they give you that after you finish your training in Australia?

Yes, you will be offered a class for a specific city and aircraft.
Only Cadets and SOs train in Adelaide. DEFOs have a higher experience level and go straight to training in HKG.

Junior Man,

I think you should check the experience levels of some of the SOs here. You might be surprised. Also, some FOs go to Adelaide, but not sure of the reasons.

Yes, that is true, there are some very experienced folks who wind up as SOs due to the fact there are no DEFO bases where they have the right to work. They are , I think, rather few in numbers these days.
I have never heard of or met a DEFO though who went to ADL for his BE 76 Commanders rating when hired.

There are also experienced SOs up here who chose SO over DEFO due to the Hong Kong expat conditions of service (far superior than based conditions).

If you can handle the HK negatives, joining in HK is a better financial package. (That's a big IF though!)

You can take a DEFO position in HK. however it's on Local terms and on the Freighter, i.e. less than an S/O gets, you'd be nuts to take it.

not the norm but

There been a least one case i know of where a DEFO went to Adelaide.
Only had "fast jet" time.
Also had to write more exams.

DEFOs that come straight from single seat fighters go to ADL for a couple weeks. I had two in my interview group that had to do the ADL thing, one F-16 driver and an F-18 guy.
