Um, Steve...

Seek Return On Their Investment In Airline's Success

Capt. Tom Donaldson, chairman of the Continental pilots' union, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Intl., has responded to Continental Airline's financial statement for the fourth quarter of 2007. The company reported Q4 pre-tax profits of $71M and $566M for the year.

"Continental pilots have worked hard and sacrificed, both financially and in their personal lives, to help ensure that our carrier is successful," states Capt. Donaldson, "It's time for the pilots to be repaid for the hundreds of millions of dollars in concessions we gave to the company. The loan on our futures is due."

He added, "As the company is making profits, we're working under a concessionary contract, spending amounts of time flying at lower pay rates, with more days away from our families. We simply want a fair return on the investment we made with our quality of life and that of our families to save the company."

The pilots' union, ALPA, and Continental management will begin negotiations on the economic sections of the pilots' contract in April, when they will address pay, work rules/quality of life issues, retirement and insurance benefits. The parties have been bargaining on non-economic issues since July 2007. The union is seeking to finish negotiations by the contract's amendable date, December 31, 2008.

..notice the comment regarding negotiating 'insurance benefits'. This is refering to retirement health insurance....something totally lacking in this company for US based pilots. Perhaps it's time a USAB association was formed to make the management 'aware' of the simmering anger about this (and many other) issues. I wonder just how the company thinks it can ignore such a profoundly important issue pertaining to pilots from the US...at the same time they are planning on expanding the number of US based pilots?

What percentage of Continental pilots are ALPA members?

What percentage of Continental pilots are ALPA members?

98% if not all of them
Unity is strenght. Individualism is weakness.

CX Mgmt. knows how to apply some of the principles underlined in the Macchiavelli book; "the Prince".
to a good listener few words are enough.

Better a unified 50% than a weak 90%!!
A thousand pilots can do a lot of damage.
Ask NC how many pilots actually reported sick in 1999 when DT threatened to sack all the A scalers. This caused major disruption and most importantly, cost cx a fortune.
You will be very surprised at how low the number is!!!
:D

Unified : to form a unit, to act as one coherent whole.

I know the only thing most of us have in common is our own selfishness, but, there is one other thing; We are all getting screwed by cx!
The more we get screwed, the more unified we will become.

Management knows very well though that there is a long way to go before we become united (hows that USM?) enough to apply any defensive pressure, therefore "the beatings will continue until morale improves".

US Marine... ya I know its a joke, especially the "coherent" part.

Unfortunately its OUR fault, not ST's(even though he is an idiot).

If my memory is not failing me, one day back in 2004(?) AirFrance pilots were in contract neg. with the Company. The company played hard ball and on a crisp tuesday AF had to cancel 495 flights. Misteriously 60 to 70% of Af pilots were sick that day.................... financial crisis is only a ph. call away.............
