What is the AOA thinking?
 

They had the golden opportunity to get back to the negotiating table but they refused to remove the "hiring ban". Why? The company already announced that hiring had ceased and therefore there was no reason to insist on the ban. Now they want to start up contract compliance again during these tough times. When will they learn? Maybe they want another 50+ pilots fired and then they will ask for 10% union dues to help those pilots.

........Please, will the last man standing turn off the lights!

Not at all old chap......just one of the few, I guess, that realize how fortunate I am working at Cathay Pacific. The problem with Cathay pilots is they can't get over the past. Those days are gone so get over it and get on with life!

CPDUDE, why lift a ban on newhires when the reason it was implimented is still in place? (49ers) This was simply another stalling tactic by CPA management. The truth is they have NO intention of ever negotiating. They have never negotiated an agreement with any employee group, they simply impose!Had the AOA lifted the ban there would be a new stumbling block within days. They always find an excuse NOT to negotiate...stick around a while longer and you'll figure this out.This is a union bust..plain and simple! Don't forget that 2000 saw the largest profit in CX's history and the 2001 profit will probably one of the biggest in the industry!!!

You may be right but we will never know because the union members won’t let it happen. I only see the hiring ban as an insignificant measure against a management, which hangs it over our heads. I say take away the ban and then clearly the choice NOT to negotiate will be up to the company! Otherwise, it will continue to be stalemate as each side waits for the other to blink.

Plain and simple (so even Kubota can understand)---management calls the tune and the pilots dance to the music, like it or not. 'Tis not Delta Airlines. The 49+ are h-i-s-t-o-r-y.

Unfortunately, you'll all have plenty to talk about before too long !

From latest Flight mag: CPA to have 7 widebodies parked up, 2 freighters and a mix of 330/340 and 400s. Will do what it can to avoid layoffs but foresees a surplus this year of 200 cockpit crew.
I guess that the AOA are just making the job easy for them!

........ anyone got any ideas as to why the gaffers are advertising for a ' flight crew relations manager'? ( latest Flight ).

Thought that they went down this road in '94 with the introduction of Crew Managers?
