Is it true that CX dispute is over?
It is being reported in other forums that the CX dispute has been called off by the Pilots Union. Is this true? And what of the 49?
|
'Limited industrial action' and 'contract compliance' (work to rule to the rest of us) have been suspended from Sunday 21st October. Talks with management to start soon (Tuesday?) with reinstatement of the 49 not a precondition for talks.
I personally believe the union position became untenable after the recent vote to continue their action when the industry was clearly in free fall. Any semblance of sympathy, even from those of us who supported the rostering grievance issues, vanished. It was only a matter of time. Unfortunately, even these new talks have been preceded by posturing from both sides. I have heard talk of a binding (really binding) 5 year agreement as an objective. YES PLEASE................. |
To answer the original question; no the dispute is not over. It has moved, hopefully, into another phase; genuine negotiation.
Whether this phase is the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning remains to be seen. As to the 49ers; nothing has changed. The resinstatement of the 49ers was never a pre-condition to talks. Reinstatement was going to be on the agenda of any such talks and there can be no doubt that some mechanism that allows for a fair resolution to the issue of the 49ers will be a cornerstone of the forth-coming talks. |
